  • Opens From Either Side: A pull cable runs to both sides of the tailgate. With the tailgate down, pull it on whichever side you are standing and both automatic slam latches let go, then roll the cover forward.
  • Rolls Straight, No Twisting: TruXedo's TruGuide stay-straight controls guide the roll so it winds up evenly toward the cab, without bunching or drifting out of line.
  • Straps Hold It at the Cab: Roll it all the way forward and secure it with the integrated retainer straps for access to 100% of the bed. TruXedo's rule: a fully rolled cover always gets both straps, and you never drive with it partly open.
  • SureTension, Set at the Factory: SureTension is calibrated at the factory to keep the vinyl taut and stop edge curl, so there is no tension adjustment for you to make. TruXedo notes the cover can look a little relaxed in the cold and tighter in the heat, which is normal.
  • RTxGrip Seal and Slam Latches: RTxGrip, a patented multi-tiered hook-and-loop closure, holds both sides down while automatic slam latches catch the rear header when you close it. Use both hands on the header so both latches engage, then press the hook-and-loop home along each rail.
  • 40-Grade DualShield Vinyl: The 40-grade DualShield vinyl is made to resist tears, UV exposure and harsh weather. TruXedo says built-in structural supports underneath reduce sagging, standing water and wind flap.

Does this TruXport fit my 1973-1987 Chevrolet C/K 1500/2500/3500 / GMC C/K 1500/2500/3500?

It does when the truck has the 8' bed (about 96"). Not sure? Run a tape along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the inner face of the shut tailgate. The 6'6" box takes 291601.

What is the right way to check my bed length?

Close the tailgate and run a tape along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the inner face of the shut tailgate. This TruXport is for the 8' bed, about 96". Compare inches, not the name the truck maker uses.

Does the tension ever need adjusting?

No. SureTension is set at the factory, and TruXedo warns that modifying the latch voids the warranty. The vinyl can look looser on a cold morning and tighter on a hot afternoon; that is normal. To keep it taut, check the hook-and-loop now and then and re-stretch the fabric across the bed.

Do I need the tailgate open to open or close it?

Yes. With the tailgate down, pull the cord on one side to release both slam latches. To close, unroll the cover, seat the rear header in the stops at each side and push it down until the latches click, using both hands so both sides engage.

Can I take it through a car wash?

Yes: TruXedo's care notes say running it through a car wash is fine. For hand washing, use mild automotive soap and water with a soft brush, and skip vinyl conditioners: TruXedo says they shrink the vinyl, and silicone or petroleum products void the warranty.

Why does water sit on top after rain?

The cross bows are made flat, not arched, so some water can collect on the closed cover; it sheds once you drive. Re-press the hook-and-loop along both rails if it has loosened. TruXedo also notes the cover is not airtight, so keep cargo that must stay dry protected.

Here's the short version. Follow TruXedo's TruXport install sheet (below) for the drawings.

  1. Seal the bulkhead. Make sure every spot where the cover mounts is clean and free of debris. If your cover came with a bulkhead seal, clean the bulkhead with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, and stick the seal flush with the inside edge of the bulkhead, trimming any excess. Skip it with a drop-in bedliner.
  2. Set the cover and rails. Stick the cab corner seals on the front of both side rails. Lay the rolled cover across the bulkhead near the cab, parallel to it and facing the way it unrolls toward the tailgate. Set the rails on the bed rails and push each rail's corner plug into the front header guide.
  3. Clamp loosely and square up. Space three clamps along each rail, the front one as far forward and the rear one as far back as they go, and finger-tighten only. Square the cover and rails over the bed opening with the front header seal lined up on the inside face of the bulkhead.
  4. Center the rails. Unroll the cover to the tailgate and check that the rails are centered on the bed, with a 1/16" gap between the tailgate header and each rail.
  5. Tighten tailgate, center, then cab. Tighten the tailgate clamps first, with their grooves lined up with the rail grooves, to 7 ft-lb (9 Nm). Roll the cover back past the center bow, slide the center clamps to the tailgate side of the bow (not directly under it) and tighten them, then push the cab clamps as far forward as possible and tighten them, all to 7 ft-lb.
  6. Close and latch. Unroll the cover, fold it back at the tailgate and stick on the tailgate corner seals after cleaning that spot with soap and water and isopropyl alcohol. With the tailgate open, seat the tailgate header in its stops and press it down until the slam latches click on both sides (use both hands; both latches must engage). Pull the fabric flap over the hook track and press it in along both rails.

    • Hard parts (rails, clamps, bows and the other included hardware) are covered for 5 years, and so is the vinyl fabric.
    • If a cover, tarp or hardware part is defective, TruXedo repairs or replaces it at its option, and may substitute a newer model of similar form and function.
    • It belongs to the initial owner and cannot be transferred. Keep a detailed, dated receipt, and contact us for help registering your cover.
    • Conditions: wash with mild automotive soap and water only and never use silicone or petroleum conditioners; when moving, the cover must be either latched closed or rolled up with both retainer straps, never partly open; keep cargo off the tarp and never tie cargo to the frame; check the rail clamps after a week of driving and periodically; don't roll it into the cab window or rest it against the cab, and re-roll it from time to time if it stays open; remove snow and ice before opening; remove the cover before rear towing; and don't modify the latch, which is factory set.

OK at best

Very cheap. I have used TruXedo covers in the past and loved them. Our old F150 had one on it for 10 years and it look as good and performed as well at 10 years as it did on day 1. This new gen3 feels very cheap and seems like it just won't last. I had to add 3 more ribs to it to keep it from flapping around in the wind while driving. It only has 2 support ribs from the factory. Really? 2 ribs? Again, it seems to be made very cheap.

What I don’t care for is the Velcro like strap underneath that always gets caught underneath of the rear brackets toward the tailgate requiring having to go side to side of the bed to unhook the strap. If not cautious it could eventually tear them off. I don’t know why the brackets were made to stick out off of the bed so far. The quality, ease of installation and the look of the cover is great. I’m giving the overall quality a 4 because of the Velcro like strap always getting hung up

Easy

Great Product and Great Look

Installation was a breeze. Final product looks great and has held up over the past several months. Love that each cover has its own unique Serial Number that is lightly marked on the underside. Cover is easy to roll up by yourself or with assistance from another person. The elastic straps that hold it when open are nice quality and seem as though they will last for years.

Looks and fits just fine

I have a 2022 Ford Ranger XLT and the cover fits just fine. The seal for the tailgate blocks rain more than keeps it out but it does block most of it. There's really no assembly for the cover other than attaching it to the truck so that was nice and, it looks great! It took about 30 minutes to put it on though it probably would have gone a little quicker if I hadn't kept fiddling with the position of it. Overall, money well spent.

Cover works well for the money

The cover looks really nice on my 2019 long bed Tacoma. The cover came with the wrong mounting brackets, but I called customer service and I had the correct brackets in 3 days. Very impressed with customer service. The cover fits well but does leak slightly at the header which is pretty typical for these trucks. It’s a small leak that I can fix with more foam seal. Overall I’m very happy with the cover especially for the price I paid.

OK , But ?

I have a 2004 Dodge with a 6 & 1/2 foot bed and I am not real happy with how much of the tailgate it covers . Maybe I needed one that was 3” longer I don’t know but in my opinion it’s to short , maybe I ordered the wrong one ? Otherwise the locks are good the Velcro works well , the material is good quality and the installation was not difficult and it looks decent but like I said it should be about 2-3” longer to be a perfect fit so I’m not all that happy with it but it is what it is .

Tarp didn’t fair so we’ll with 50 mph winds

Love the tarp, but can’t handle 50 mph wind gusts. Tarp stitching ripped on the back support bar, that sits above tailgate.

Cheap

The cover is cheaply put together and doesn't seal well at all. A small foam piece is supposed to seal the corner and doesn't. Feel like you'll break the cover every time you open it.

Will not stay latched

Started out good, then it started to where it would come unlatched at highway speeds. I adjusted, made sure it was square, rewatched the installation video, reinstalled, still will come unlatched. Very disappointed for the money I spent on this.

Did something change?

This is my 2nd one, first one was awesome. This doesn’t fit as well. You have to suck the frame in on the back because the plastic on cover is shorter than width of box and it won’t stay locked. Not sure what happened between this one and the last one, but disappointed.

Design flaw in latching mechanism

Very nice product , the problem is that the mechanism to snap the cover down by the tailgate is poorly constructed and made with plastic that can break very easily . If the end cap was made with metal it would save you many headaches and returns I would love to discuss and show the designers what I have noticed in the time that I have owned to Tonn cover

Very disappointed

Tension is too tight and comes unsecured when you hit a bump. Doesn’t seal either so the contents of the bed get wet. Wouldn’t buy or recommend…

My truck is a Nissan

My truck is a Nissan Frontier EX 2022. The bed cover is not compatible for this type of truck. At the windown en the bed drops by 1 inch and at tailgate end it is not square. We made a 1nch piece of bar to get it level and install the bed but not pisible to modify lail gate end, where the cover is square and the bed curves on the corner. So the cover is not suitable for the Nissan Frontier XE bed.

Poor Quality

The cover arrived damaged, however we did not know until we installed it on our truck and the latch was damaged. We were sent new latches however the cover would not stay latched and rolled up while moving. This cover is a poor design and poor customer service.

Reason for low star

I installed before we left for beach made it down wonderfully with no issues, had a wind storm and went up over bridge to get to island and it broke the locking mechanism that keeps it held down on the driver side. I then had to rachet strap it down in order to make it home. So I used it for 1 week and it broke due to wind. Was very disappointed that it became basically unusable after my first week of use. Have tried contacting customer service and have not been communicated back with.

Easy to install, just take your time and do it right. Had to trim some sloppy seals this time. Hopefully they aren’t cutting corners. Don’t remember doing that last time. Last one lasted 5 years before the Velcro wore out fyi
