The winch itself is four bolts. The work is the mount and the wiring. Fit the vehicle-specific mount kit for your machine first, then bolt the VRX 25 to it on the 3.0" x 4.87" (76.2mm x 123.7mm), 4 holes pattern and torque the fasteners to Warn's specification. Route the power leads to the battery away from moving suspension, hot exhaust and steering components, and keep the run as short and as well supported as you can. Mount the control switch where you can reach it without taking your eyes off the machine. Should I buy the steel VRX 25 or the synthetic VRX 25-S?
Mechanically they are the same winch, so it comes down to how you use it. Steel rope is cheaper, and it takes being dragged across rock and gravel far better than synthetic does. Its downsides are weight, roughly six pounds more on the front of the machine, the broken strands that eventually make it unpleasant to handle without gloves, and the fact that steel stores energy and whips if it fails under load. Synthetic is lighter, safer if it parts, and easier on your hands, but it needs more care around abrasion and heat.
What does 7x19 aircraft wire rope actually mean?
It describes the construction: seven strands of nineteen wires each. More, finer wires make the rope more flexible and more resistant to fatigue from being spooled and unspooled than a coarser construction of the same diameter. It is the standard specification for winch line at this size, and the VRX 25 carries 50' of it at 3/16" diameter.
Do I need anything else to fit this winch to my machine?
Yes, a mount. Powersports winches are universal in the sense that they are not tied to one model, but they bolt to a vehicle-specific winch mount kit that is made for your machine and sold separately. How do I look after the steel rope?
Watch for kinks, flat spots and broken strands, and retire the rope if you find a cluster of them in one place. Spool it back under light tension so it lies in even wraps; a loose wrap will bury itself into the layers below under the next load and damage the rope. Wear gloves when handling used steel line, because broken strands are sharp. Steel is far more tolerant of abrasion than synthetic, which is the main reason to choose it, and it runs correctly over the roller fairlead this winch ships with.
How waterproof is it really?
IP68 is the highest immersion rating in the IP scale, and Warn applies it to the whole VRX assembly rather than to the motor alone. That is the important detail, because the usual way a winch dies is not the motor drowning, it is water sitting in the gear case and spoiling the grease over a season or two. Crossings, mud and washing down are all normal use for this winch.

I never knew how much I needed this
As with all BAK covers, the quality is amazing. What I didnt fully appreciate until installing was the ease of opening - especially in a lifted truck. No more need to find the right handhold. Just roll it back with a single hand. Its also great to see out of my rear window when fully open - something you lose with the fold back covers. Customer service is awesome. I has an installation question and the representative stayed on the line as I adjusted an alignment to ensure I did it properly.

Better then expected.
Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.
