Features

  • Push-button lock: A red push-button sits on the lid face, built to resist tampering; turn the key to lock it and the button stays retracted until you unlock it again.
  • 90-degree lid opening: Gas struts lift the lid straight up to 90 degrees and hold it there, so the whole box is open to you while you work.
  • 12V access port: A 12V pass-through gives you a path for power into the box, ready for lights, chargers or other electrical up-fits.
  • High-security locking: Weather Guard calls this lock system its improved high-security design, and the lock pairs with an automotive-grade latch so the lid stays shut against prying and picking.
  • Easy-close latch: Dual-stage rotary latches catch with a lighter push, so the lid closes fully without being slammed.
  • Enhanced tie-down buckles: Roomier tie-down buckles leave space for a universal strap hook, or for several straps at once, when you secure cargo in the bed.

About Weather Guard

WEATHER GUARD.

Weather Guard is the truck and van storage brand of Werner Co., the Illinois company also known for its ladders. Its tool boxes are built in the USA, and the line runs from crossover, Lo-Side and gull-wing boxes to chests, underbody boxes, bed drawers, transfer tanks, ladder racks and van shelving.

Weather Guard's current boxes use the 1Key UltraLock, a red push-button lock you can code so one key opens every box on a truck or across a fleet, and many are finished in ARMOR TUF powder coat.

Buying Weather Guard from Prestige Truck. Weather Guard asks for the original sales receipt with any warranty claim, so keep your Prestige Truck order receipt with your records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit a Ram 1500?

It is on our fitment list for that truck. Measure the usable length of your bed side rail against this 41" box, since rail length depends on the bed.

Do I need to drill to mount it?

Yes. The Lo-Side install sheet fixes the box with mounting clamps, legs and blind fasteners in drilled holes, so plan for a drill with 3/16", 3/8" and 1/2" bits.

Do I have to drill my truck?

Yes. Weather Guard's Lo-Side install sheet sets blind fasteners in drilled holes, and a stake pocket that blocks a clamp needs a 1/2" hole. Check under the vehicle for fuel lines, the tank and wiring before you drill. For aluminum beds, the bolt kit carries an upfit kit with zinc-rich primer for the holes.

Can I run it next to a crossover box?

Yes. Weather Guard's sheet says to mount the saddle or crossover box first, then set the Lo-Side box with a 1/8" gap between the two and confirm the lid opens fully.

How does the key coding work?

The lock has no preset code: it learns the first Weather Guard key (codes B001 to B050) you code it with, and that cannot be changed later. Each box ships with one pair of matching keys, and further coded boxes can learn the same key. Note your key code, as it cannot be looked up later.

What sizes does the Low Profile Lo-Side come in?

Two lengths, both in aluminum with a 15-ga body: the 56" 178 holds 4.0 ft³ at 44.5 lb, and the 41" 180 holds 3.0 ft³ at 35.5 lb. Each comes in bright aluminum, gloss black, textured matte black or gunmetal gray.

Installation

Install time Not printed on Weather Guard's install sheet
DifficultyNot printed on Weather Guard's install sheet
TypeLo-Side box on top of one bed side rail, held by two mounting clamps, two legs and blind fasteners set in drilled holes (Weather Guard sheet 24-00156)
Toolselectric drill with 3/16", 3/8" and 1/2" bits, 1/2" deep-well ratchet, 1/2" and 9/16" open or box wrenches, carpenter's square

Here's the short version. Follow Weather Guard's install sheet (below) for the exact positions and hardware.

  1. Code the locks with your key before first use. Once a lock is coded it cannot be changed; test it five times.
  2. Fit any saddle or cross box first. Set the side box on the bed, block it up, square it to the bed and level it, with a 1/8" gap to a cross box. Check the lid opens fully.
  3. Stand each leg square at the rear, inside the wheel-well line, on the bed floor (not a liner or mat). Mark the leg top and foot holes, then repeat for the other leg.
  4. Take the box out, drill all marks with a 3/16" bit, then open them to 1/2". Set the blind fasteners and bolt the box down with 5/16-18 x 1-1/4" bolts.
  5. Attach the two mounting clamps with bolt, washer and lock nut. If a stake pocket is in the way, drill it 1/2" level with the bottom of the bed lip.
  6. Aluminum bed: prime drilled holes with zinc rich primer and use vinyl tape between the J-bolt and the bed.

Warranty, shipping & returns

  • Warranty

Weather Guard backs this box with its Limited Lifetime Warranty, issued by Werner Co.: the box is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for its expected lifetime, counted from the day you buy it.
    • Only the original purchaser is covered, and coverage ends if the box passes to a new owner.
    • Every claim needs a copy of the original sales receipt, so keep your Prestige Truck order receipt with your records.
    • Werner Co. picks the remedy: it repairs the faulty part or replaces the whole box at no charge for parts or labor, or it may refund what you paid or issue a credit toward a new Weather Guard product.
    • Not covered: normal wear and tear, cosmetic rust, scratches, accident damage, repairs Werner Co. did not authorize, misuse, overloading, or a box that was not mounted or used as Weather Guard's written instructions describe. Damage to what is stored in the box or to the vehicle is excluded too.
    • Where the law allows, Werner Co. accepts no liability for incidental, special, indirect or consequential damages, economic loss included. This is the only express warranty on Weather Guard products, and no dealer can change it.
    • Report a problem promptly once you find it. To start a claim, contact us with your order number and photos of the issue, and we will take it up with Weather Guard for you.

Weather Guard 44.25in Model 180-5-03

Very thankful I purchased this tool box. Very sturdy and heavy duty. You can tell its made to last. Expensive, but well worth the quality if you rely on it for work. I like how secure the locking system is, and also how strong and durable the shocks are. This box did not mount easily to my f150 because I have a plastic bed liner that takes up a good portion of space between the bed and bed rail. I had to use my own hardware to mount the box, but it was easy and simple for anyone who knows how to use a drill with bolts and nuts. I wish I would have bought weather guard a long time ago... We've gone through several tool boxes and I know this one will definitely last the longest.
