Weather Guard Puts the Pack Rat Through a Durability Beatdown

Weather Guard's own durability film, in which the Pack Rat is loaded, slammed, dropped and generally abused to show what the 14 gauge steel top and 12 gauge skids actually survive. If you are trying to work out whether a steel drawer unit is worth the weight over a plastic box, this is the clip that answers it.

Weather Guard Sliding Truck Bed

This official Weather Guard video demonstrates the sliding truck bed that pulls your whole load out to you instead of making you climb into the bed. You watch it glide out under a heavy jobsite load, rated to carry up to 2000 pounds, so tools and materials come to the tailgate. It shows how much faster and safer loading and unloading becomes on a busy work truck. It is a strong companion to Weather Guard's boxes and drawers for organizing the bed.

Best Upgrade for Your Truck

This is Weather Guard's own brand film about outfitting a working pickup, built on the idea that the truck should already be loaded and organized before the day starts. It puts the bed and rail equipment in the context of a real work day rather than a spec sheet. Watch it if you are still deciding how much storage a truck actually needs. It is the clearest short look at how Weather Guard boxes, racks and drawer units are meant to work together on one vehicle, and it comes straight from the manufacturer rather than a reseller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

How much weight can the drawer and top hold?

The roll-out drawer is rated for 425 pounds evenly distributed and the steel top and sides are rated for 2000 pounds evenly distributed. That lets you pack heavy tools in the drawer and still stack gear or stand on top, as long as loads are spread out and within those limits.

Is the drawer lockable?

Yes. This current 338-3-04 is Weather Guard's redesigned Pack Rat with the 1KEY UltraLock keyed cylinder, so the drawer locks with a key and can be keyed alike to the rest of your Weather Guard boxes and racks. A One-Touch latch also opens it with one hand and holds it firmly closed while you drive.

Will it fit my truck?

The unit is 48" wide by about 39-3/4" front to back and sits crosswise on the bed floor, so it fits full-size pickup beds and cargo vans. It is too wide for mid-size and compact trucks. Measure your bed floor and the space between the wheel wells first, and check the Weather Guard Pack Rat sizes and fit guide for your model.

How is it mounted?

It bolts to the bed floor through the steel base using the included hardware. Plan to drill a few mounting holes, seal them with zinc-rich primer, and on aluminum beds follow the blind-fastener steps in the instructions. Pack Rat units can also be stacked and fastened together per the Weather Guard install manual.

Can I customize the compartments?

Yes. The drawer comes set up with 4 compartments and 24 adjustable dividers, so you can arrange spaces for fasteners, power tools, rigging and small parts. Move the dividers any time your kit changes.

What is it made of and is it covered by a warranty?

It is built from 14-gauge steel top and sides on 12-gauge steel skids with a white powder-coat finish that resists rust and scuffs, and it is backed by a Weather Guard Limited Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
