Features
- AutoLatch II Locks Itself Shut: Pull the release cord from either side and both latches let go together. Press the rear bar down to close the cover, and the heavy-duty nylon latches catch under the side rails on their own with 1/2" of latch contact.
- XT-Dial Tension, No Tools: Hand dials on the front bar set how tight the vinyl sits. Turn both by the same amount to take up slack as the cover settles in. Access says a cover kept drum tight is less likely to collect standing water.
- Sealed on All Four Sides: Front and rear vinyl seals, foam on both side rails, an Element Seal gasket across the front of the bed and extra seals in the rear corners. Like any soft cover it is weather-resistant, not waterproof; Access notes some moisture and dust can still get in.
- Hook-and-Loop Side Closure: A 1-1/2" slide-in hook strip runs the length of each side and presses against the angled rail to close the edge. Seal both sides the full length every time you close the cover.
- Rolls to the Cab, Strapped: One person can roll the cover up toward the cab and open the whole bed. Nylon storage straps with a cab-guard buckle hold the roll in place and keep it off the cab, then clip away underneath when the cover is closed.
- No-Drill Tight Bite Clamps: Toothed clamps bite into grooves on the side rails and hold them inside the bed walls, with no drilling on most trucks. Most short beds use 6 clamps and long beds 8; some trucks also need a special instruction sheet.
Description & Fitment
The Access Original is a soft roll-up tonneau cover for 2007 New Body through 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups with the 5'9" bed, which GM calls the 5'8" short box. It suits owners who want a roll-up that is sealed on all four sides and closes with hook-and-loop sides. No-drill Tight Bite clamps hold it on, and XT-Dial tension adjusts without tools. AutoLatch II nylon latches lock it shut when the rear bar is pressed down, and it rolls to the cab and straps in place.

About Access
Access roll-up covers come from Agri-Cover, Inc. of Jamestown, North Dakota, which says its covers are built there. Agri-Cover says it introduced the first roll-up tonneau cover, the Access Original, in 1991; it also makes LOMAX hard covers, truck racks and farm roll tarps.
The Original is where the Access roll-up range starts, riding 1-1/2" over the rails. Its siblings change one thing each: the Lorado drops to 1", and the Toolbox Edition begins behind an over-the-rail toolbox. All three keep the AutoLatch II latches, XT-Dial adjusters and Slantback rear bar.
Authorized Access dealer. Agri-Cover sells Access covers through what it calls "Authorized Dealers all across the country" and "authorized online retailers." Your Access Original carries Agri-Cover's 5-year limited warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my 2007-2013 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 1500?
Yes, if it has the 5'9" box. Measure inside the bed floor from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate and match it to the label. If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll check.
How do I tell the 5'9" box from the other boxes?
Measure inside the bed floor from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate and match it to the label: this part is the 5'9" box, and the 1999-2007 Silverado 1500/Silverado 1500 Classic/Sierra 1500 6'6" box (12199) is a different part. If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll check.
How is the Original different from the Lorado?
The Original rides 1-1/2" above the bed rails, and the Lorado sits lower at 1". Both use the AutoLatch II latches, XT-Dial adjusters, four-side sealing and Slantback rear bar, and both carry a 5-year limited warranty.
Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?
It is built to keep most of it out: seals on all four sides, foam between the rails and the bed and a gasket at the front. Access's own manual says no cover stops all moisture and dust, so pack anything that must stay dry in its own wrap and seal any factory holes or stake pockets. Brush snow off before you roll it up.
Does the cover lock?
The latches engage on their own every time you close it, and the release cord is reached from the tailgate. Access says that with a locking tailgate the bed becomes a secure unit. It is a deterrent rather than a safe, so don't leave valuables in an unattended truck.
Will it work with my bed liner?
Usually, yes. Access lists spray-in liners, bed mats and most under-the-rail drop-in liners as compatible. Its sheet says an under-the-rail drop-in needs a little trimming at the front corners and near the tailgate, while an over-the-rail drop-in needs a lot more.
Installation
- Two 1/2" wrenches
- Torque wrench with a 1/2" socket
- Tape measure
- Marking pen
- Scissors
- Safety glasses
Here's the short version. Follow Access's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact clamp positions, plus any special sheet your truck needs.
- Clamp the side rails. Set each rail against the inside lip of the bed, pushed forward to the front wall with the nylon strike at the tailgate end (long beds join the two rail sections first). Hold the front flush with the top of the bed, then clamp from front to back with the clamp teeth in the rail grooves and the rail level, and torque each clamp to 20 ft-lb or the value on your truck's special sheet.
- Fit the bulkhead seal gasket. With the air and surface above 60°F, wipe the top of the front wall with the alcohol pad. Peel and stick the gasket from the front of one rail to the opposite corner, raised side along the inside edge of the bed, and trim it to length.
- Add the rear seals. Clean the underside of each rail end, mark and notch the rear seal's leg, then stick a seal to the tailgate end of both rails.
- Attach the tension adjusters. Set the pre-rolled cover on the tailgate with the front bar facing up. Thread the left (L) and right (R) adjusters onto the front bar and leave both bolts loose.
- Mount the cover to the rails. Set the cover at the front of the bed and roll the front bar onto the rails with the vinyl flap tucked under it. Bolt each adjuster under its side rail without turning the dial, center the front bar between the rails, then tighten the adjuster bolts.
- Close, check and fine-tune. Unroll the cover and press the rear bar into the strikes. Close the tailgate and raise or lower the rails at the rear until the tailgate fits snug under the rear bar, re-check the clamp torque, even out the tension with the dials (counterclockwise tightens) and seal both sides with the hook-and-loop.
