Features

  • Folds up to the cab: Unlatch it and fold the cover forward to the two-thirds-open position, or fold it again against the rear window for full bed access. Nylon buckle straps hold it folded, and the built-in prop rods hold it up against the cab so you can drive that way.
  • Built-in water drainage: An internal water channel catches water that gets past the seals and guides it down the rails and out through drain hoses at the front of the bed.
  • No-drill clamp install: It clamps on with the included clamps and hardware, with no drilling or modifying the bed on most trucks, and BAK puts the install at less than an hour.
  • EPDM weather seals: EPDM rubber hinges and outer rail seals keep water out. The tailgate seal is a conventional one, so BAK says to close the tailgate before the cover for the best water resistance.
  • Textured FRP top panels: Textured gloss-black fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) top panels sit on an aluminum substructure and resist UV fading. BAK says FRP stands up to impacts, abrasion and temperature extremes better than soft covers or aluminum tops; BAK rates the cover at 300 lb, evenly distributed.
  • Panels latch automatically: Each panel latches to the mounting rails on its own as the cover closes. To open it, unlock and lower the tailgate, reach under the cover and pull the release cable.

Description & Fitment

Built for the 6'6" bed on the 1988-1998 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 1500, 1988-2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 2500, 1988-2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 3500 and 6 more trucks in the fitment table, this BAKFlip FiberMax is a hard folding cover cut to that one bed. You get BAK's patented rail with a load-bearing flange, plus an internal water channel with drain hoses. It clamps to the bed rails with no drilling, using BAK's clamps plus a stake pocket clamp at the tailgate end. It folds to the two-thirds-open position or all the way to the cab, and the prop rods hold it there for driving. Coverage is BAK's 3-year limited warranty from the purchase date.

Check your bed: measure along the top of the bed rail from the bulkhead to the inside of the closed tailgate. This cover is for the 6'6" bed. Some older rows specify the Fleetside bed. On the 1988-1991 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 3500, BAK lists the Regular Cab and Extended Cab.

Not for: the 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (1126121). Each of those has its own BAKFlip FiberMax part number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit my 1988-1998 Chevy/GMC C/K 1500?

Yes, if it has the 6'6" bed. On the 1988-1991 Chevrolet and GMC C/K 3500, BAK lists the Regular Cab and Extended Cab. Measure along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate, or send us your VIN and we will confirm.

Do I have to drill anything?

Not into the bed rails. The drain tubes can run behind a bed liner or through the bed plugs; drilling a 5/8" hole in the bulkhead is only one of BAK's options.

How is the FiberMax different from the BAKFlip F1?

Both have textured gloss-black fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) tops. The F1's panels have a high-density foam core, are rated at 400 lb and carry a 5-year warranty. The FiberMax uses FRP top panels on an aluminum substructure, is rated at 300 lb and carries a 3-year warranty.

Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?

It is built to. EPDM rubber hinges and outer rail seals keep most water out, and an internal channel sends what gets past them out through drain hoses. The tailgate seal is a conventional one, so close the tailgate before the cover. BAK's install sheet notes the cover is not airtight, and clearing snow and ice before opening is a warranty condition.

Can I carry cargo on top of the cover?

BAK rates the closed FiberMax at 300 lb, evenly distributed. Its install sheet also says not to tie cargo to the cover or drive with objects on top of it, so treat the rating as a measure of strength, not as a roof rack.

Can I drive with it open?

Yes. Folded once, the nylon buckle straps hold it; folded against the rear window, engage the prop rods. BAK's warranty requires the cover to be secured at all points whenever the truck is moving.

Here's the short version. Follow BAK's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact clamp positions and settings.

  1. Prep the bed. Make sure the areas where the cover mounts are clean. If your kit has a bulkhead seal, clean the top of the bulkhead with soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol, let it dry and stick the seal from one edge to the other, trimming the excess (no seal is needed with a drop-in bed liner). If your kit has rubber filler strips, stick them between the plastic bed cap and the metal rail, one 6-8" from the bulkhead, one at the tailgate and one in the middle.
  2. Set the side rails. Fit a drain tube to the front of each side rail and set the rail flush with the top edge of the bed rail, drain end toward the cab, pushed all the way forward and square to the bed. Run the tubes behind a bed liner, through the bed plugs or through a 5/8" hole drilled in the bulkhead.
  3. Clamp the rails. Hang the clamps as high as they go, the front one 6-8" from the bulkhead and the center one behind the prop rod, keeping the rail level with the bed cap. At the tailgate end use the stake pocket clamp (a standard clamp on 2019 and newer trucks with the Multi-Pro tailgate). Tighten all clamps to 10 ft-lb with a 1/2" wrench or socket, without over-tightening, and repeat on the other side. On 2007-2013 trucks, fit the stake pocket covers near the tailgate.
  4. Fit the cover. Slide the two cover retainer clamps into the track under the cover near the cab, and screw the two strap buckles to the front panel by hand with a Phillips screwdriver (BAK says no screw gun). Set the folded cover on the rails at the cab end, centered between them, and turn the retainer clamps clockwise until the lock washer is secure.
  5. Unfold and square it up. With the cover still folded, clean its top edge where it meets the cab (soap and water, then isopropyl alcohol) and stick the cab bumpers along it. Unfold the cover to the tailgate and check that each panel is centered side to side and front to back; the tail panel should overlap the tailgate by about 1/2". Shift it on the loosened retainer clamps if needed, then re-tighten them. With a power tailgate, make sure it still opens and closes with the cover shut.
  6. Check the latches. Release each latch to make sure it catches the side rails; the sheet shows how to adjust a slam latch that hits or misses. BAK's warranty asks you to re-check every clamp after the first week of driving and now and then after that.

Back flip cover

This product is great. My wife and I had gone to a furniture store just to look around. We ended up buying somethings and of course we had to put in the truck bed, but the cover was on.... No problem, just folded the flip cover up, put in the rods that held it in place against the back window. The furniture went right in and no hassle with the cover. Got home took out the furniture, folded down the flip cover shut the tailgate and latched down the last section of cover. The only problem was with the drain tubs being to big for the bed drain holes. I had to buy a reducing coupler to make it work..

Better than expected

The install was pretty straightforward and took under an hour. Super happy with security that it provides, protecting the bed contents from theft. I took it through an automatic car wash day 1, and was impressed. There was some water intrusion in the corners, but it was very minimal. We took a road trip from Texas to Florida and encountered a nasty thunderstorm. I'd say the bed was about 90% dry. Super satisfied with the performance.

BAKFlip is the best

I reviewed and actually talked to people in parking lots of restaurants and shopping and asked them about their tonneau tops. The only one who was 100% satisfied with their product was the BAKFlip owner. It is a solid cover that clicks into place and locks securely. It is not completely waterproof but with the soft mattress I purchased with it any water stays below in the ridges of the bed cover. I highly recommend this product...you get what you pay for.

Fantastic hard cover. Easily a huge upgrade from vinyl and installation was a breeze. There is a fantastic video that walks you through step-by-step how to put it on, and it took under an hour. The ability for the cover to fold back in sections and still stay secure is a major plus. I love how the black gloss matched my paint very closely, and even my wife commented on how much better the truck looks. Purchased a FiberMax cover.

I installed it myself. It was pretty easy. Then I noticed my drop in liner was affecting the rails. The left rail was not going down because the drop in liner was in the way. I cut away some of the liner and it fit great. Then, I noticed the left side clip attached to the strap was broken. I contacted the customer service in a Chat and they wanted a picture saying both "Both the manufacturer needs photos to verify that it is broken and what piece it is so we can replace it for you" . Not what I thought since I purchased the cover February 21, 2018. Oh well if this wouldn't have happened I would rate the whole experience as a 5 star. Put it on my 2018 honda ridgeline. Was very easy to install. Does leak a little when it rains, but nothing to complain about. Very good cover. On the ridgeline, you about 3 inches in the with of the bed because you need to install additional rails to install the cover. The directions for this were a little confusing. Other than that, no complaints.

It’s cost too much to be just OK

When you roll it up, the pieces that hold the panels together come out. This results in the cover not sitting flush until you puts them back in place. A simple pin through teach one would prevent this from happening. Buy a roll of flex tape if you want it to be waterproof.

The install was far easier than the instructions indicated. It's obvious that the instructions weren't updated for the 2024 Ranger because it has parts that aren't listed on the instructions and it goes together easier once you figure it out. It fits well, though I'm not sure its entirely waterproof. Time will tell. The look is outstanding and all I had hoped for. We'll see if the rubber seals hold up to the weather any better than the leather of most covers. That will be the real test. It's not year one I'm concerned with, it's years three through five.

Great tonneau cover for 2017 Toyota Tacoma

This cover has exceeded my expectations. It was easy to install, although I did snap one of the bolts in the process, so the bolts could be a bit stronger. The cover fits the 6' bed of my 2017 Toyota Tacoma perfectly, and opens and closes with ease. It withstands the rain, snow and ice here in Maine. It has a great seal, and is essentially waterproof - the only time a bit of moisture got in was during a six hour drive on highways through a pouring rain. Otherwise, it is watertight. Best of all, it looks great. Couldn't be happier.

Love it, couple of issues

The video and instructions don't really explain how to strap down when cover is completely opened. The knobs to tighten the hinge receptor when wanting to prop up cover keep coming off. I've tried a few things to address that, will see if it works Beautiful Tonneau cover and easy to install.

For 2017 nissan titan

had to put a wood shim 1/4 inch shim down the length of the rail..they don't make it yet for the 2017 titan..but with the wood shim fit perfect...put these on 5 truck of mine already..great product..this top fit for 2015 titan an below...will fit the 2017 with that small shim

I will update this reciew after i receive my replacement cover. Many issue in receiving 1st, having to reorder.. received it and it does not fit properly. Spoke with CS Manager John and I am supposed to get a new unit. Still waiting, holiday shipping "may" have delayed the replacement. I must say customer service has been great, when you can get them on the phone. Very poor follow up though.

Love this cover

I think these covers are great. Very easy to install - they are expensive though. Very easy to flip up and have access to your entire bed. Not completely waterproof, but I didn't expect it to be. Not because of the cover, but all the other spots water can get into the bed, mostly around tail gate. Not much, just a little, even after a torrential downpour or car wash. I am completely satisfied with this cover. Exactly what I wanted.

BakFlip FiberMax for 2016 Nissan Frontier

I love this cover! I'm a cinematographer, and it keeps my equipment and lights perfectly dry, even in crazy monsoon rains. Yet, I can still utilize my full bed space and keep my bed extender in the back without having to remove anything. I can store my equipment in the back and travel with it all locked up, or I can flip the cover open and film commercials for other trucks right from the bed while someone else drives. It's even better than I anticipated, and I couldn't be any happier!

Overall great product! Real easy to install, took about 45 min to install the cover with the BakBox option, The supplied weather stripping seals tight, rained for 4 days after I installed and no water leakage into the truck bed at all, even driving at highway speeds in heavy rain.

I had 3 installed by a professional shop. All 3 leaked so bad everything got soaked. Couldn’t been any worse not having a cover at all. They all leaked at the rubber joint that folded and also ran down the wire you pulled to fold the cover. 3 new covers = 3 leaking covers.

Looks great, but could be better

overall I love this cover. It does leak some water near the center of the cover, but overall it stays pretty dry in the bed. Installing the clips/buckles that mount near the cab was an absolute joke. Shards of metal inside the screw holes prevented the screws from threading all of the way through. Had to drill them out and pull out any metal shards that were interfering.

Great cover. Instructions poor

In Step 1 of the instructions, there was no mention of where to place the front weather strip on the rail. When I first installed it, it was too far front, resulting in the back strip not overlapping the tailgate. I removed the cover, peeled up the strip, moved about 1.5" back, and reinstalled the cover. It was still too short. Now I nave to get more adhesive to move the strip a 3rd time to get the cover to fit. Instructions should have said to put the initial strip down at the closest edge to the bed. Once I fixed this, the cover is great.

Terrible service

I have a fleet of trucks and I routinely buy BakFlip covers for them. My most recent purchase was a disaster and disappointing. The cover was shipped with one rail too short. Getting the correct part was nearly impossible. The service people were rude and non responsive. They finally shipped a complete cover kit instead of simply the single part that was needed. We had to then hassle with the whole new kit, then send everything back (minus the single part we actually needed) Terrible service, terrible attitude of service staff. The covers have been great but you better hope you don’t have any issues because they are incompetent and rude to work with.

Do not make the mistake of purchasing this item! BK-126309

I purchase this cover for a camping trip, I received this Back flip just in time to install and hit the road. What I didn't realize is an attached paper in the instructions telling me that if I didn't register online for the warranty within 2 week I would lose all warranty. So- on my trip I started having problems with the locking latch and the cable that you pull to open a section of the panel that flips. What I noticed is a small 2 or 3 inch aluminum section that is screwed into the aluminum panel, this panel has 4 set screws attached to keep the cable release stretched tight and locked, but when you bull the cable to open the panels are locked shut, the set screws are stripped out in the aluminum and are laying in the bed of the truck! I have a total of 6 set screws that fell out and you can't re-install because of the aluminum being stripped out. So the only way to fix this is…

Easy to Install

It's solid and was fairly easy to install. I have a 2022 Silverado w/5.5 ft bed. Since it is 1.5" short in my opinion, it leaks, even under a light rsin. I adjusted it so that it covers the tailgate but also still butts up to the front of the bed. I readjusted my gasket to stop it but it doesn't. I really got it for security if I have stuff in the bed. For that, it works well.

Good not great

Very sturdy. Looks GREAT. Probably keeps your stuff safe in your tonneau, but let’s a good bit of water in when it rains. Overall pretty happy but main reason for purchase was to keep things (golf clubs) dry.
