The BAKFlip MX4 TS is the MX4 for people who carry gear on top of the bed as well as in it. BAK took the Gen 3 hard folding cover and machined full-length T-slot channels into both side rails, so crossbars, cargo baskets, bike and kayak carriers, ladder racks, and roof-top tents mount straight to the cover system. Underneath the rack rails it is a proper Gen 3 MX4. Heavy-duty aluminum top panels over high-density polymer cores, about 22 percent stronger than the original MX4 and rated for 400 lb evenly distributed on the closed cover. The patented auto-latch system locks each panel as you fold it shut. Upgraded rubber seals, tight-fit clamps, and a dual-action tailgate seal keep weather out, and integrated water channels and drain tubes carry off what does get through.

The TS adds one thing the standard MX4 does not have beyond the rails: BAK's Multi-Shield matte black finish, rated at up to 11 times more surface durability against scratches and scuffs. That matters on a rack-ready cover, because a cover with a rack on it gets things dragged across it. It also stays low. Despite the rails, the MX4 TS sits nearly flush with your bed rails, so a rack mounted to it starts lower than one bolted over the bed sides.

Operation is unchanged from the MX4. Drop the tailgate, release the rear latches, and fold forward. For full bed access, fold the panels upright against the cab and secure them with the heavy-duty prop rods, then drive with the bed open. The third brake light stays visible in every position.
