- Matte aluminum slats: Industrial-grade aluminum slats joined by elastomeric hinges, powder-coated in a textured matte black that Retrax says resists UV and scratches.
- Aluminum spiral canister: When you open it, the cover rolls into a rugged aluminum spiral canister at the bulkhead, which protects it and leaves nearly all the bed open.
- Three lock positions: The cover locks at three preset positions along the rails, and the included latch stops can be moved for more, so part of the bed can stay covered around oversized cargo. Retrax says to fit the same number of stops on each side.
- Flush canister cover: A flush, no-profile cover over the front of the canister helps keep water and debris from running into it.
- No-drill install: Bolt-on clamps fix the rails to your bed rails with no drilling, cutting or trimming. Retrax rates the install at less than 1 hour, and its feature list says within 30 minutes.
- Driver-side quick release: Drop the tailgate, pull the hidden quick-release handle on the driver side and slide the cover into the canister. Retrax notes that with the cover closed and the tailgate locked, your bed is locked too.

Will this fit my 1988-1998 Chevrolet C/K Pickup 1500?
Yes, if it has the 6'6" bed. Measure along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate. If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll check.
Do I need to drill?
Not into the truck on most trucks: the IX bolts on with clamps, no drilling, cutting or trimming. Retrax's sheet routes the drain tubes out through a hole drilled in the factory bed plug, or through a suitable existing hole. Your truck's install sheet is in the Installation section.
How is the Retrax IX different from the RetraxPRO MX?
The IX has aluminum slats joined by elastomeric hinges, three preset locking positions plus movable latch stops, and a driver-side quick-release handle that you reach with the tailgate down; it carries a 2-year limited warranty. The PRO MX has double-wall aluminum slats rated for 500 lb, a TraxLatch handle that latches anywhere and opens with the tailgate up, and a limited lifetime warranty.
Can I leave part of the bed covered?
Yes. The cover locks at three preset positions, and the movable latch stops add more; Retrax says to fit the same number of stops on each side, evenly placed. When you aren't using it, keep the cover latched in a stop so it can't roll.
Will it keep rain out of the bed?
The slats are joined by elastomeric hinges, the flush front canister cover helps keep water and debris out of the canister, and drain tubes carry water from the canister out of the truck. Retrax's warranty page says its covers are not waterproof, so treat it as weather-resistant, and clear snow and ice off before opening; that is a warranty condition.
Does it need any maintenance?
Wash it with mild automotive soap and water only, never lubricate the rails or sealed ball bearings (that voids the warranty), and re-check the clamps after the first week of driving and now and then after that.

Here's the short version. Follow Retrax's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact steps, part letters and torque settings.
- Assemble on the bed. Set the canister assembly on the bulkhead and bed rails, centered across the truck. Slide the rails into the canister tabs, line up the holes and drive the 10-32 x 0.750 Torx screws in with the T-25 bit until flush with the rail; Retrax notes they are self-tapping and take force.
- Build the clamps and stops. Thread a nylon set screw into the side of each clamp and a 5/16-18 bolt into its bottom (1.625" long, or 2.25" on GM trucks). Put a 5/16-18 x 0.50 bolt and nylon lock nut, left loose, on each rail end cap and latch stop.
- Set the latch stops. Slide a latch stop into each rail and set the front one 1/16" from the rail fastener, then slide in the other stops and clamp nuts in the order the sheet shows. With the front seal lying flat on the bulkhead (trimmed so it doesn't pass the bed rail caps), fit the rail end caps and set both rails 1/8" from the tailgate with the 1/8" spacer. Put the rear latch stop flush against the end cap. Optional middle stops go in equal numbers on both sides, evenly placed; tighten stop fasteners to no more than 5 ft-lb.
- Fit the clamps. Slide one clamp nut as far toward the cab as it goes and one toward the tailgate, thread in the clamp bolts and set the clamps close to the latch stops, clear of bed sheet metal and plastic rail caps. Tighten until they no longer slide, to no more than 5 ft-lb. The Tundra short bed (2007-2021), the Ram 1500 (2009-2018), 1500 Classic and 2500/3500 bed and the 2019+ Ranger use different clamps or rails, and 2019+ GM trucks add adhesive rubber shims; follow your truck's page in the sheet.
- Square the rails. Line the cover rails up straight with the spiral rail section and turn each clamp's nylon set screw in until it touches the bed rail. Measure across on top of the front cover and above each clamp; they must match within 1/16". Adjust with the set screws, then re-tighten all the clamps.
- Drain tubes. Push a drain tube into each side of the canister and turn it clockwise until it clicks twice. Route them out through a hole drilled in the factory bed plug or another suitable hole, checking for lines before you drill. When the cover isn't in use, keep it latched in the latch stops so it can't roll.

Retrax backs the Retrax IX with a limited warranty for two (2) years against defects in materials or workmanship, from the original date of purchase.- A defective cover or hardware component is repaired or replaced, at Retrax's option; Retrax may substitute a newer model with a similar form and function.
- It covers the original purchaser only and is not transferable. Keep your receipt, since proof of purchase may be required. Retrax asks for registration within 30 days of delivery; contact us for claims and registration help.
- To keep it valid: clean with mild automotive soap and water only, no strong chemicals; never lubricate the rails or sealed ball bearings; keep cargo secured at all points while driving; check every clamp and retention part for tightness after the first week of driving after installation (or reinstallation) and now and then after that; clear snow, ice and anything else off before opening; never tow the truck from the rear with the cover on (remove and store it first).

I love this cover on my 2023 Sierra Denali!
Overall a really good cover for the price point. The instructions could be better. It took me a little over an hour to install. The cover gives my truck a low profile. My cons on this cover is, I wish the aluminum slats were a little thicker. I have a little bit of water in the bed near the tailgate. Overall I’m happy with my purchase so far.

Cover looks great on the truck, seems to be very secure, and I have not seen much water inside After rain. Only a little by the tailgate. I would recommend this to anyone who is hiding their 5th wheel hitch. Takes a while to put on properly but you can do it by yourself. Follow the instructions carefully or you might end up having to go back on something you already did. I did!

The tonneau cover is reasonably strong, keeps water out pretty well, locks anytime the tailgate is shut without the need of a key (which is the reason I chose this model vs the better ones that have a release on the top of the cover which has to be locked/unlocked with a key anytime you want access to the bed). The bad about this cover is that it is the budget model without bearings to help it slide in and out. After less than a month and lubing the tracks twice already it is very difficult to fully roll up, almost impossible.

Poor Quality Control / Worse Customer Service
1. Pre-tapped holes in aluminum rails off by 1/8 and 1/16. Needed to cut the rails to assemble. 2. Crimp on the latch cable was not crimped AT ALL. Fell right off. Customer service not available on the weekend. When they did get back to me the next week I told them I had already modified their product to make it fit. They kept contacting me like they didn’t know I had already told them I no longer needed assistance.

Easy install & water tight
The Retrax IX looks great and I was able to install by myself. I live and work in Corpus Christi, TX. CC is a Coastal city and after a couple of tropical storms, AKA gutter washers I have been very please with the ability of the Retrax IX to keep the bed of my truck water free. Best bang for the buck
I installed this cover in about an hour by myself with simple hand tools, mostly provided by the manufacturer. The fit, finish and durability of the cover are great. I go through the car wash several times a week and I don't see Any water in my truck bed. I originally got this for the security factor, since I keep my golf clubs with me most of the time, and a soft cover wasn't enough security. If you want a secondary lock or more capacity to stack things on the cover, then you will pay twice the price. Very happy with my purchase. I also picked up a bed rug at the same time and they are awesome as well.

It's everything I wanted.
It functions good. It is everything I expected it to be. I did do my research before purchasing and I was aware these styles are not completely watertight. They do a good job of mitigating the water, but expect a very slight amount of water in the bed sometimes. I tested mine by going through a car wash too, so a more extreme environment. Overall I am very happy with the sleek design, functionality, durability. Also it was a pretty simple installation process.

Feels like a quality product, especially for the price. Took us about an hour to install but that’s because I forgot to make sure it was not too far up towards the bed. The clamps were tricky but we figured it out. It would be nice if the drain tubes were smaller to fit the existing holes from the factory and I wish the glide was a bit smoother but it’s not bad. Looks great on the truck!

Decent cover
The Retrax IX seems to be a good cover. Easy to install in under an hour, the cover itself has a nice flat black finish and I like the low profile appearance of the side rails and canister. The rail endcaps look like more of a cheap afterthought than a finished part of the package. Those end caps also create a small gap between the tailgate, bedside and cover allowing for rain to enter the back corners of the bed. So long as you keep gear pushed back away from those corners, it should stay dry.

Installation instructions are clear enough but watch the video instead. It would be better if hardware included square nuts instead of hex nuts. The hex nuts tend to spin in the channel just trying to overcome the friction of the Nylock nuts. After initial install, I had to remove the rails and re-tighten some bolts by pinching the channels near the nuts with vise grips to keep nuts from spinning. Quality seems okay so far, but plastic latch hardware seems questionable. Will only be able to gauge quality after a few months of use.

Cover seems good went down a star did not care for the hardware for the stops the nuts kept spinning in the track and locking up swapped them out with larger nuts and work much better. And the hose for the drains were to large for the holes in the bed put in different hoses.

Bed contents protection
Getting ready to install a fifth wheel hitch but wanted to have something to protect it from the elements. This cover allows me to close the bed off when not hooked up and protect any contents I may have in the back from the random snatch and grab. Slides smoothly and locks securely. Takes up a small amount of space at the front where it rolls up but doesn’t affect my ability to install and remove my 5th wheel hitch. Shipping was fast and arrived undamaged.

Watch a few videos and read the instructions and installation isn’t too bad. Fit well on my 2025 f150 long bed. Expect to lose about a foot of bed space. You can put items less than 10” tall under front canister. Seems well constructed. I would have liked metal over plastic adjustment screws.

Spend more for if wanting retractable
Purchased for a gmc sierra. Install was a real pain despite the video instructions and support took days to respond and wasn’t very helpful. Never mounted very cleanly to the bed, always had a gap at the tailgate, and shifted in the bed due to the rails not sitting flush with the bed rails when closing the tailgate. Hoping higher priced similar covers are of a higher quality, I would pass on this one.

Doesn’t stop rain
I’ve had the bed cover installed for about 2 weeks now. The actual tank the bed cover retracts into is leaking in the bed out of both side’s under the bottom and the drainage tubes won’t click in like the directions say no matter how hard I tighten them which causes them to leak as well.

SO FAR SO GOOD...
Installed this yesterday...took longer than expected. Getting it on isn't an issue, adjusting the cover to get the right fit took quite a bit of time. My spoiler on the tailgate was crooked(been meaning to fix that) so that didn't help. Initially I had another issue with the cover sliding off track but I believe I fixed that issue. Pay close attention to the instructions. After readjusting the clamps, several lock points, & finally readjusting my tailgate spoiler I think she straight. Looks great! I'm giving the cover and tailgate a bit of time to adjust as instructed to in many videos. I usually get the tri fold covers but let's see how I feel after several uses.
