Features

  • T-slot Trax Rails: The aluminum side rails are T-slot Trax Rails that Retrax says accept most T-slot racks, gear and mounts from major makers such as Yakima, Thule and Rhino-Rack (sold separately).
  • Key-fob remote operation: Two key fobs come in the kit; hold a button and the built-in electric motor opens or closes the cover.
  • Stops and locks anywhere: Let go of the button part-way and the electromagnetic brake locks the cover where it is, for partial bed coverage.
  • Double-wall aluminum slats: Double-walled aluminum slats with a matte black powder coat carry 500 lb spread evenly.
  • LED cargo light: A remote-activated LED cargo light on the canister lights the bed and shuts itself off after 3-5 minutes to save the battery.
  • Drain tubes: A built-in drainage system with drain tubes carries water from the canister out of the truck. Retrax's sheet notes the cover is not airtight.

Description & Fitment

The Retrax PowertraxPRO XR is an electric retractable tonneau cover with T-slot rails for the Ram 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 and 3500 with the 6'4" bed, without RamBox. It suits owners who want a hard cover that opens and closes at the press of a key fob button. Stop it at any point and it locks in place, and the T-slot Trax Rails accept racks and gear mounts (sold separately). Double-wall aluminum slats, an LED cargo light and drain tubes round out a cover backed by Retrax's 3-year limited warranty.

Check your bed: measure along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the inside of the closed tailgate. This is the 6'4" bed, the same bed as Retrax's manual T-80232 for these trucks. We do not have a sourced inch figure for it, so go by the bed name on your build sheet or send us your VIN.

Not for: trucks with RamBox.

About Retrax

RETRAX.

Retrax makes retractable tonneau covers. Retrax's install sheets list Retrax in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The PowertraxPRO XR is the electric aluminum-slat cover with T-slot Trax Rails; the PowertraxPRO MX has standard rails. The range splits into manual covers (RetraxONE MX and XR, RetraxPRO MX and XR, Retrax IX and the RetraxPRO FRC-4000 EZ-OFF) and electric covers (PowertraxPRO MX and XR, PowertraxONE XR and the Retrax EQ). XR models add T-slot rails for racks; MX models have standard rails.

Authorized Retrax dealer. Prestige Truck is an authorized Retrax dealer, so what we sell is new and genuine Retrax. In Retrax's words, the warranty "is to the initial consumer purchasing the truck bed cover and it is not transferable to a subsequent end user. Proof of purchase may be required to enforce these warranty rights." Your Prestige Truck order receipt is that proof.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit my Ram 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 or 3500?

Yes, if it has the 6'4" bed, without RamBox. Measure along the bed rail from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate. If you're unsure, send us your VIN and we'll check.

Does it fit a truck with RamBox?

No. This part is for beds without RamBox. We don't list a version of this cover for that setup.

How is the PowertraxPRO XR different from the PowertraxPRO MX?

Both are electric double-walled aluminum slat covers rated for 500 lb, with two key fobs, electromagnetic brakes, a fob-controlled light and a 3-year limited warranty. The XR adds T-slot Trax Rails for racks and accessories.

What can I mount on the T-slot rails?

The Trax Rails accept most T-slot racks, gear and mounts from major makers (sold separately), and Retrax publishes a T-slot compatibility chart. For rack load ratings, Retrax points you to the rack system's manual, and you must stay within your truck's capacity.

Is it safe with someone in the bed?

Retrax's sheet says the cover has no manual release from inside the bed, so never let anyone, including children or pets, be in the bed with the cover closed, and keep hands clear of the moving cover.

How is it powered?

A fused harness runs along the frame to the truck battery (red to positive, brown to negative). The cargo light shuts itself off after 3-5 minutes.

Installation

DifficultyWired to the truck batteryand two people lift the cover onto the bed
What's involvedPower harness runs to the battery, the cover is assembled on the bed and the rails clamp in, no drilling
Tools
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • 9/16" wrench
  • 1/2" wrench
  • Scissors or utility knife

Here's the short version. Follow Retrax's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact steps, part letters and torque settings.

  1. Run the power harness. Wire-tie the fuse-holder end of the harness (red and brown wires) near the battery, but do not connect it to the battery yet. Route the harness to the driver side and down along the frame rails to the bed, as high as possible and clear of moving parts and the exhaust, with a wire tie every 2-3'. Bring it into the bed through the driver-side drain hole (wrapped in the split wire loom) or through the gap between the cab and the bed, leaving about 24" in the bed.
  2. Assemble the cover. Remove the shipping screws, brackets and white shipping tubes from both sides, and keep one shipping bracket to use as a spacer later. Pull the cover 6-8" out of the canister and hold it there while you guide it into each side rail's channel and seat the rails in the canister. Fasten the rails to the canister with the four 10-32 x 7/16" screws, then slide the front cover under the rails and fasten it through the top of the rails with the two 10-24 x 3/4" screws and the 1/8" Allen wrench, all to 32 in-lb. Leave the protective film on until the end.
  3. Set it on the bed. Some drop-in bed liners need notching at the front corners to clear the canister. With two people, lift the cover onto the bed with the canister at the bulkhead and the front seal lying flat on the bulkhead; trim the seal if it runs past the bed rail caps. Slide the cover back and use the shipping bracket as a spacer to set both rails 1/8" from the tailgate.
  4. Clamp the rails. The T-slot rails use adjustable-back clamps built for the extra load: tuck each clamp's top jaw firmly into the top inside corner of the bed rail sheet metal, loosening the screws to reset the jaw if it does not seat, with both sets of teeth fully engaged. Fit the clamps between the adjustment screws front and back and tighten them with a 9/16" wrench while you push the rail down and tilt it up about two degrees, which Retrax says keeps water out best.
  5. Square the rails. Measure across the rails on top of the front cover and again above each clamp; all three must match within 1/16". If they don't, remove the clamps, turn both white adjustment screws with the 6mm Allen wrench (one full turn moves the rail 1/16") and re-clamp. With the cover closed and latched, the weatherstrip should show equally on both sides; if one side shows less, move that rail forward toward the cab. Once the rails are square, loosen each clamp's jam nut, run the stand-off bolt in until its bumper firmly contacts the bed wall and re-tighten the jam nut; Retrax says not to over-torque the bolt.
  6. Drains, power and checks. Peel off the protective film and click a drain tube into each side of the canister (turn it clockwise until it clicks twice), routing the tubes out through the factory bed plug or another suitable hole. Plug the power harness into the electronics connector labeled "P", connect the red fused wire to the battery's positive post and the brown wire to the negative post, and fit a fuse in the fuse holder. Hold the fob button to open or close; one press lights the bed, and the light shuts off after 3-5 minutes. Check that the cover rolls without rubbing or binding and re-check the clamps after the first week of driving.

Warranty, shipping & returns

  • Warranty

Retrax backs the PowertraxPRO XR with a limited warranty for three (3) years against defects in materials or workmanship, from the original date of purchase.
    • A defective cover or hardware component is repaired or replaced, at Retrax's option; Retrax may substitute a newer model with a similar form and function.
    • It covers the original purchaser only and is not transferable. Keep your receipt, since proof of purchase may be required. Retrax asks for registration within 30 days of delivery; contact us for claims and registration help.
    • To keep it valid: clean with mild automotive soap and water only, no strong chemicals; never lubricate the rails or sealed ball bearings; keep cargo secured at all points while driving; check every clamp and retention part for tightness after the first week of driving after installation (or reinstallation) and now and then after that; clear snow, ice and anything else off before opening; never tow the truck from the rear with the cover on (remove and store it first).
    • Claims: contact us for claims and registration help. Retrax issues a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number before anything is returned. Retrax may ask for the part back postage prepaid, and shipping charges apply to a repair or replacement. A claim needs your order number, contact details, vehicle, product or part number, a description of the issue, the original receipt and photos.
    • Not covered: damage from an accident, neglect, unforeseeable use, improper installation or servicing, or any other cause that is not a defect in material or workmanship. Retrax's general warranty page also lists normal wear (including fading), water intrusion and add-on accessories as not covered, and Retrax does not accept returns of non-defective products once installed.

Looks great & easy to install!

I bought this tonneau cover for my 2026 Sierra SLT. I'm very pleased with the look. It opens & closes quicker than I expected. I watched the install video a couple of times and that was enough to install this cover by myself. Installing the wiring took about 1 hour. Assembling the side rails & back cover took about 1 hour. I raised the assembled canister & rails in the garage with a block & tackle and backed under it. The rest was easy. Installing the canister took about 2 hrs.
