- Double-wall aluminum slats: The top is made of double-wall aluminum slats, rated for up to 500 lb spread evenly, and the matte black powder coat is built to resist scratches.
- Smooth CoreTrax rollers: Sealed CoreTrax rollers run in the rails and the TraxLatch handle gives you a solid grip, so the cover glides open and shut. The bearings are sealed for life: Retrax says never to spray lubricant into the rails.
- Holds open anywhere: The TraxLatch handle latches the cover at any point along the rails, not just fully open or closed. You can even latch it down against a load to help hold it between the cover and the tailgate, though Retrax still says to strap cargo down.
- Seals tight, drains water: The cover seals against the bed rails, and a water management system carries runoff to drain tubes at the canister that you route out of the bed. Retrax's own sheet says the cover is not airtight, so think weather-resistant, not waterproof.
- Key-lockable TraxLatch: Wherever you latch the cover, open or closed, you can lock the TraxLatch handle with its key. Retrax says the key lock and the double-wall slats give it added theft resistance.
- Opens with tailgate up: The cover and the tailgate work independently and in any order, so you can reach your gear without dropping the tailgate.

Standard rails or wide rails: which do I need?
Retrax makes this cover for these trucks in two rail versions; this listing is the standard-rail one and 80471 is the wide-rail one. The material we have from Retrax doesn't explain how to tell them apart, so check the part number on your order or old cover, or send us a photo of your bed rails with your VIN and we'll confirm.
What is the difference between the RetraxPRO MX and the RetraxONE MX?
The PRO MX has a double-wall aluminum slat top rated for 500 lb, sealed CoreTrax rollers, the TraxLatch handle and a limited lifetime warranty. The ONE MX is a one-piece aluminum-reinforced polycarbonate cover rated for 200 lb with a spring-loaded handle and a 1-year limited warranty. Both are manual covers with standard (non T-slot) rails.
Will it keep rain and snow out of the bed?
It is built to: the cover seals against the bed rails and drain tubes carry water from the canister out of the truck. Retrax's own sheet says the cover is not airtight, so plan on weather-resistant rather than sealed. Clear snow and ice off before you open it; that is a warranty condition too.
How much weight can it hold?
Retrax rates the PRO MX for up to 500 lb, evenly distributed. Retrax's sheet says cargo should still be secured to the bed so it can't come loose.
Does it need any maintenance?
Wash it with mild automotive soap and water only and don't wax it. Never spray lubricant or cleaner into the rails; the bearings are sealed and lubricating them voids the warranty. If the rails feel sticky, Retrax suggests rubbing paraffin (candle) wax along them.

Here's the short version. Follow Retrax's install sheet (below) for your truck's exact steps, part letters and torque settings.
- Assemble the cover. Remove the shipping screws, brackets and white shipping tubes from both sides, and keep one shipping bracket to use as a spacer later. Pull the cover 6-8" out of the canister and hold it there while you guide it into each side rail's channel and seat the rails in the canister. Fasten the rails to the canister with the four 10-32 x 7/16" screws, then slide the front cover under the rails and fasten it through the top of the rails with the two 10-24 x 3/4" screws and the 1/8" Allen wrench, all to 32 in-lb. Leave the protective film on until the end.
- Set it on the bed. Some drop-in bed liners need notching at the front corners to clear the canister. With two people, lift the cover onto the bed with the canister at the bulkhead and the front seal lying flat on the bulkhead; trim the seal if it runs past the bed rail caps. Slide the cover back and use the shipping bracket as a spacer to set both rails 1/8" from the tailgate.
- Clamp the rails. Fit the clamps between the adjustment screws and tighten them with a 9/16" or 1/2" wrench (depending on your clamps). Push down on the rail and tilt it up about two degrees while you tighten; Retrax says this positions the rail best to keep water out.
- Square the rails. Measure across the rails on top of the front cover and again above each clamp; all three must match within 1/16". If they don't, remove the clamps, turn both white adjustment screws with the 6mm Allen wrench (one full turn moves the rail 1/16") and re-clamp. With the cover closed and latched, the weatherstrip should show equally on both sides; if one side shows less, move that rail forward toward the cab.
- Fit the drain tubes. Peel off all the protective film, push a drain tube into each side of the canister and turn it clockwise until it clicks twice. The tubes usually exit through a hole drilled in the factory bed plug, or another suitable hole, routed as directly as possible; if you drill a new hole, check for lines behind it first.
- Check and re-check. Open and close the cover and the tailgate to make sure it rolls without rubbing or binding; on some trucks, raising or lowering the rear of the rails slightly improves the tailgate fit. Re-check that every clamp is tight now, after the first week of driving (a warranty condition) and now and then after that.

Retrax backs the RetraxPRO MX with a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials or workmanship, from the original date of purchase.- A defective cover or hardware component is repaired or replaced, at Retrax's option; Retrax may substitute a newer model with a similar form and function.

Looks great and so far the quality seems very good. Easy to install but had to drill a couple of holes in the bed for the drainage tubes. That's the only reason I rated installation at 4 stars and that's only because it was on my brand new truck! I did that with a 7/8" hole saw to get a clean hole and then touched up the cut with under-coating. I placed a rubber grommet in the hole and the tube fit snugly. So far I'm happy with it, but it is a little pricey.

Love it on Silverado crew cab short bed
Installed on 2024 Silverado crew cab high country with 5’10” bed. Build quality, fit and finish is excellent and looks OEM. Roll up box sits just above high country logo on front of bed, still have access to all tie down hooks. I used a step bit to drill drain tube holes as high as possible (about 2” below bottom of box) on front of bed and to the sides (beyond plane of wheel wells) - to allow a sheet of ply wood all the way to front bed wall without hitting tubes. Do not expect it to be 100% water proof, small amounts of water will seep in on sides, but it’s minimal and certainly good enough to keep contents dry and certainly no direct water spray/splash or draining in middle of cover. Getting the rails lined up perfectly and angled at 2° is a little tedious, but keep re-adjusting clamps with different rail pressure and re-measuring and it eventually will be perfect. High Quality well made bed cover
I purchased the Pro MX, part number 80485 for my new 2026 Silverado 3500 HD long bed. This is the fourth Retrax cover I have put on a new pick up. I like the updated design with sealed ball bearing rollers. It was very easy to install. Instruction YouTube video explains the process very well. If you adjust it properly, you can open it and close it with literally one finger it rolls that easy. It is well-made and it is made in North Dakota. ReTrax Pro MX for GMC Sierra Carbon Pro bed
Purchased the ReTrax Pro MX for my new 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate. Heavy duty retractable cover, great fit, and looks awesome on the truck. 2926 GMC sierra 1500 Crew Cab 4x4
I’ve had many different tonneau covers before, they all leak water when going through a car wash. There are just a few drops with this retractable cover. Next to none. Also I thought the cover would rattle while driving, no it doesn’t. This is first class. Even if I open it and slide it a few inches or open it all the way I can lock in any position I want to. This is a great tonneau cover.

This tonneau cover was moderately easy to install, provided you have an extra person to help, fits perfectly and comes with easy to follow instructions. It's a locking cover and comes with two keys. The hardest part was getting it in the bed after putting the rails on the cylinder....the rest was cake. Would buy again.

Best Tenue I've owed.
No cover is 100% unless you get a cap, but this cap is not only resistant to most all water, but it looks better than any other on the market. I couldn't be happier with the ability to stop the cover at any point on the track. The trickiest thing I had with the installation was that the pre-drilled holes in the bed of my GMC was not large enough for the drain tubes and aligning the sides. Pricy but in this case, you definitely get bang for your buck. Overall....Totally great!

Installation was a little more tedious that I originally thought. Took a little over 2 hrs. I would say the majority of that was doing the fine tuning to ensure the distance between the rails was uniform. It’s done with these plastic bolts that have a tendency to strip, but we got it done. Now that it’s on, I love it!! No water issues, everything stays dry. It looks amazing and sleek on the truck. Easy to slide, and locking mechanism is very secure. Pretty high price point, but it seems worth it so far.

2026 Ford Ranger Raptor
Purchased this for a new raptor. Wanted dry secure storage without looking overlandy. It delivers on what I wanted. Instructions were not great. They had a seal to install that after I contacted customer support they stated was simply not needed. I spent a few weeks fussing with it. The drain tubes for this unit will not stay in by themselves based on design. You will need to use rtv to glue them in or find another way to attach them. This does cleanup real nice after an off-road adventure and looks real sharp. It’s surprisingly quiet as well, even after repeated high speed offroad adventures and rock crawling. Would get 5 stars with better instructions and better drain tubes.

Not as smooth as in expected
The cover was installed professionally. It looks great. My only dislike is that it doesn't glide smoothly like it should. If I open it and give a light push it doesn't retract more than a few inches. It takes near constant prodding to open all the way.

Best Truck Cover I've ever had, installed on a High Country Silverado. The slats are heavy duty and will never sag after years of use, like the cheaper covers do. The rollers with ball bearing operate as smooth as silk. And the locking mechanism is outstanding. Installation is easy, but due to the heavy duty construction, the canister is heavy and best to use 2 people. Buy it and you will never regret it.

Not easy to install. Doable for sure but not easy. I’m 62 and my wife is 51. We got’r did but some aspects of the install were challenging. Installed 12/10/23 on a 2024 Chevy 2500HD ZR2, So far so good. Shipping was a bit of an issue FedEx lost one of the 2 boxes for a couple of days, but it did finally arrive in good condition. The installation process was on point. I did watch the installation video prior to purchase and then just followed the directions included in the box. I definitely need the wife's help to heft it up on to the truck but it was more for the extra set of hands, she's just 5' tall and a 100 lbs. and of course was annoyed to have to spend 10 minutes in the garage ;-) Total installation time was about an hour working mostly solo. I went from a BakFlip to the RetraxPro and while this is more difficult to install I definitely like the design and the build of the unit. You really need two people to install the unit due to it's bulk although I do see where you can make it happen with one person. It slides in and out of it's cartridge with little effort and does keep the bed dry. About the only place I get any water is where it meets the tailgate but there is so little it doesn't really matter. Depending on how you have it sitting it may keep the tailgate from opening by itself on the Multi-Pro tailgate but you just need to make minor adjustments to correct that. About the only complaint that I would have is that the cartridge could be a little bit wider so it fits tighter to the bed but I am nit picking as the unit fits well and is solid.

Good cover, but not great
In general, I like the cover. It looks good and secures the tools I carry in my truck. However, it is definitely not weathertight. If it is raining and I open the tailgate to look inside, there is water dripping through between all the slats. I had some tools in an open tool bag and after a mild rain there was about 1/4" of water in the bottom of the bag. Also, the cover tends to slide open just a bit, maybe 1/2". I tried adjusting it repeatedly, but still tends to open a bit.

Not the cheapest but worth it
This is my second retractable tonneau cover. First was from different manufacturer priced on low end and lasted 18 years. I would say this is more dodetately priced but worth every penny. Super low profile 1-1. 5 hr easy install. Has ability to be removed within 10 minutes and replaced in 10 minutes if you ever need access to entire bed. All aluminum powder coated. Super smooth bearing system only requires single handed retraction. Can be stopped anywhere along the way and locked in. Can be locked for security, not fort knox but some deterrance. No straps required for operation. With how nice this manual version works, not sure why you would ever need motorized version! Would recommend 10 out of 10.

Take's up a lot of room in a short bed, clamps to connect side rails are poorly machined so screws are at an angle (causes rails not to tighten flush allowing water to seep in), and very pricey compared to some other options on market.

Retrax: Pleasantly suprised
I had a hard time deciding on Retrax because of all the warnings I was seeing about Chevy/GMC full electric tailgates not operating properly with this cover closed. Also minor concerns that a fair amount of water may leak in. After one month of use I am really impressed! Three rainy days and two hand washes later I've had nothing more than a slight dribble of water in one front corner. Plenty good enough for a truck bed! As to fitment-a couple of hundred tailgate swings and I haven't seen a split-second delay either opening or closing. I believe the shear rigidity of the aluminum will make "snow load" and non-factor in the winter but can't tell that yet. Installation was not hard at all, but I encourage using caution and going slow. Getting perfect spacing and square seems to be the secret to tailgate use and weather seal. Better Than Expected!
I did weeks of research for a cover on my new '23 Silverado. I narrowed it down to the Retrax Pro MX based on reviews and my neighbor having one. He loved his and I love mine. I installed it myself and it was a simple task with just a few hand tools. The cover functions very well, easy to operate. The water intrusion is very minimal, I only see a little around the tailgate from the car wash. Otherwise, no rain gets in! This is the best all around functional cover for a pickup that I've ever seen. Quality product, easy install and excellent operation. Highly recommend!

It is mix bag
I adore my retrax pro on my 2019 Honda Ridgeline but the downside retrax does not bed rack rails for it like they do other models. They say it is because the Ridgeline bed tappers to the end. Van Tech makes bed rails for it though. I would like the retrax pro with bed rack rail system but am looking at other options currently.

Incorrect Product Delivered
I ordered the new and improved "Gen2" cover; I know because it had the newer 'oval' latch. After receiving it and getting it halfway assembled, I realized that I got the older model with the older 'flap' latch (the same as my previous 10-year-old cover). Of course, it was too late to take it apart and cram it back into the box (which is probably impossible) to return, so I just finished the install. Cover is nice, but it is just so frustrating when companies pull the old bait-and-switch with a "new and improved" product and then just ship you the older model.

Do not buy for 2026 Ford Ranger
This model does not function properly on a 26 Ford Ranger. The included brackets do not fit, the manufacturer says you don’t need them. The rubber sealant that is included is way too thick and doesn’t fit. The cover does not looks in place except fully closed and it leaks like crazy! I wish I could return it but I am a 5’1” tall 52 year old woman and I can’t take it off and repackage it by myself. I’m absolutely disgusted with this purchase.

Good, but...
The cover itself is great. Easy to install. Looks and performs exactly like its supposed to. However, when you spend this kind of money on a bed cover, you should expect all of it to be high craftsmanship. Two minor issues that could be easily upgraded which would finish it off. 1- The lock cover is flimsy and made of plastic. I can see this weathering and breaking off in a couple of years, which will expose the locking mechanism to rain and slow. 2- The drain plugs and hoses are worthless. They do stay plugged into the box and leak bad. Come on guys! Step your game up!

Shipping damage
Cover came to me with shipping damage. Great customer service and got a new one shipped out while I got the damaged unit returned. New one arrived...and more damaged goods. I was able to hammer out the dents as they would not be seen when installed. The product is good but the packaging needs work. Be prepared to return the first one or two before you get lucky.

Nice premium retractable cover
Very nice cover but no install guide included. For the price of this cover you should get a paper copy of the install manual. The online install guide is hard to follow on your phone and easy to skip steps. The cover has one big issue, that is that the rails have a one inch gap to the bed rail. This makes it impossible to tighten the clamps fully without distorting the cover rail. Too make it work correctly spacer blokes are needed and not included. It is possible these are the wrong rails for this install on a 2025 Ford Ranger, possibly for the previous generation Ranger. I plan on making my own spacers so the top can be securely attached and the clamps stay in place.

I am very satisfied with the RetraxPRO MX cover. It was easy to install no problems and instructions were plain and simple, However, I have a PRO Tailgate on my Denali and because of how it is made it leaks a little water not much, threw the groves in top of tailgate no fault of cover. Not a super big deal and like I said not much water but would like to fix then I would have a pretty much waterproof bed. But as far as the cover I would for sure buy again and recommend it to anyone.
