Description & Fitment
The TeraFlex Alta Cargo Rack sits above the spare tire on a 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK or JK Unlimited hardtop to keep extra supplies out of harm's way on long overland trips. A steel support frame, which adds its own accessory mounting points, attaches it to the TeraFlex Alpha HD Hinged Spare Tire Carrier, and it requires both that carrier and an Alpha HD Adjustable Spare Tire Mount, neither included. TeraFlex rates it at 75 lb total cargo, clears up to a 37" tire and notes it may raise the center of gravity.

What do I need to mount it?
TeraFlex says it must be used with both the Alpha HD Hinged Spare Tire Carrier and an Alpha HD Adjustable Spare Tire Mount: 4838150 (carrier with 5x5" mount), or 4838100 carrier plus mount 4838130, 4838235 or 4838188. They are not included.
Does it fit soft-top JKs?
No. TeraFlex lists 2-door and 4-door JK hardtop models with the Alpha HD Hinged Spare Tire Carrier.
How much can it carry?
TeraFlex gives a 75-lb total cargo rating and notes the rack may raise the center of gravity and affect weight distribution.

Installation
- Flat head screwdrivers (small and medium)
- Ratchet wrench
- Allen sockets (5/16" and 7/32")
- 13mm socket
- Wrenches (10mm, 13mm and 9/16")
Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.
- Lay out the parts, loosely fit the passenger side bracket to the rack pan with four M6 x 12mm bolts and T-nuts (thread locker on the bolts), then slide on the side rails on loose T-nuts and snug them with the 4mm Allen key, leaving some play.
- Fit the corner supports by sliding the rails aside to clear each one, square the rails, use a helper or clamp so the gaps are even and the rails sit tight to the pan, then tighten all rail-to-pan bolts with thread locker.
- Loosely fit the driver side bracket and the front brace to the rack pan with the M6 bolts, washers and nuts, and the two 3/8" bolts through the front brace and passenger side bracket.
- Remove the spare tire, the four 13mm bolts on the driver side of the adjustable tire carrier mount, one upper passenger side bolt on the hinged carrier and the rubber tire stopper on the tailgate; clean the tailgate and carrier surfaces.
- With a helper, lift the rack into place and start the upper bolts (1/2" bolt on the passenger side, M8 x 50mm with thread locker on the driver side), then the rest; fit the passenger inner brace and spacer, and the rubber-faced spacer behind the driver side bracket, securing that bolt's nut through the removed tailgate vent cover.
- Tighten the tailgate bolts in order (driver bracket bolts around the tire mount, then the passenger bracket bolts on the carrier, then the spacer bolts and brace bolts), then the rack pan to bracket bolts; refit the spare and re-torque everything after the first 300-500 miles.

TeraFlex's warranty list covers its racks, the Alta cargo rack included for life against defects in materials and workmanship.- TeraFlex extends its limited warranty only to the consumer who first bought the product, and only on the vehicle the part was first installed on. It does not pass to a later owner.
- Coverage starts on the purchase date and does not restart if a part is repaired or replaced.
- For a covered defect, TeraFlex will either repair or replace the product (or the faulty part) free of charge or refund the purchase price, at its discretion, and it pays the freight to send a repaired or replacement part back to you.
- Not covered: damage from transportation, storage, improper use, skipped instructions or preventive maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repair, normal wear and tear, product finish, improper installation or maintenance, racing or competition, or accidents, abuse and neglect. Improper installation, poor maintenance, racing or competition use, and neglect or abuse void the warranty.
- Paint and powder coat finishes carry 90 days of defect coverage only, not wear from use.
- Claims: contact us first. Keep your proof of purchase or original invoice; removing the part from the vehicle and the inbound shipping are the owner's responsibility.
