Features

  • Ductile iron castings: Heavy-duty iron, reinforced at stress points.
  • Over 1-1/8" more clearance: Raises the tie rod away from rocks.
  • Correct geometry: Keeps steering angles right for the highway.
  • Fits factory parts: Works with stock or aftermarket shafts, joints, hubs and tie rods.
  • ESP and ABS unaffected: Factory stability and traction systems keep working.
  • Sold as a pair: Both front knuckles for a Dana 30/44 JK axle.

Description & Fitment

The TeraFlex Dana 30/44 High Steer Knuckle Pair is for a 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK or JK Unlimited with a 4"-6" lift, where the stock steering layout runs short of clearance. Cast from heavy-duty ductile iron and reinforced where stress and deflection build, the knuckles keep steering angles correct for highway driving and raise tie rod ground clearance by more than 1-1/8". They work with factory or aftermarket axle shafts, ball joints, hubs and tie rods and do not affect ESP or ABS. TeraFlex requires an HD Drag Link Flip Kit and other parts with them.

About TeraFlex

TERAFLEX.

TeraFlex describes itself as a Jeep company at heart, started and staffed by people who drive them. It designs, engineers and builds suspension systems, shocks, axles and performance parts, with the Wrangler and Gladiator at the center of the range.

The company traces its roots to the 1950s and MEPCO (Military Equipment Parts Company), an early supplier of Jeep parts. TeraFlex Manufacturing followed in 1996 to build heavy-duty suspension for the TJ Wrangler, and today's catalog runs from full lift systems and the Falcon shock line to axles, steering and armor.

Authorized TeraFlex dealer. Prestige Truck is an authorized TeraFlex dealer, so what we sell is new and genuine TeraFlex. In TeraFlex's words, its limited warranty extends "only to the consumer who originally purchased the product," so keep your receipt with your build records.

Frequently Asked Questions

What else do I need?

TeraFlex says the knuckles must be used with an HD Drag Link Flip Kit (1853930, or 1853905 with tie rod kit), plus a track bar drop bracket kit (1600444 or 1953000), the HD Tie Rod Kit (1853910) and the 1-5/8" stabilizer relocation kit (1123160). The complete systems are 4390975 and 4391000.

Does it work with a Falcon Nexus EF stabilizer?

Not with a factory-style track bar bracket and/or factory-style axle housing, per TeraFlex.

How long does install take?

TeraFlex estimates about 3 hours.

What warranty does TeraFlex give?

TeraFlex covers its ball joints, tie rods, tie rod ends and drag links for life against defects in materials and workmanship, and paint and powder coat finishes for 90 days. For knuckles, pitman arms, clamps and skid plates, contact us and we'll confirm the term before you order.

How quickly does it ship?

Shipping is free to the lower 48 states, and most orders arrive within 1-5 business days. We email your tracking number as soon as it ships.

Can you confirm it's the right part before I order?

Yes. Contact us with your VIN or year, model, front axle and lift height, and we'll check it against TeraFlex's fitment information before it ships.

Installation

Install time 3 hours
What's involvedDrain the differential, remove the brakes, axle shafts, tie rod and knuckles, then fit the high steer knuckles, refit the shafts and move the steering stop bolt. Fit the flip drag link, center the axle with the track bar and reseal the differential cover.
Tools
  • Basic mechanics tool set
  • Mallet or dead blow hammer
  • RTV gasket maker

Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.

  1. Raise and support the front axle at the points in the factory service manual, remove the wheels, drain the differential by removing its cover and clean the mating surfaces.
  2. Remove the brake caliper and anchor bracket (21mm) and hang them from the spring with wire, take off the rotor and the ABS sensor (5mm Allen, pry gently), free the ABS line from its clips, and pull the axle and unit bearing out together after removing the three unit bearing bolts (12-point 13mm).
  3. Remove the tie rod (loosen the locknuts with a 21mm and strike the knuckle face to release the tapers) and both knuckles (cotter pins out, top nut 7/8", lower nut 1-1/8", strike the knuckle faces to free the tapers).
  4. Install the high steer knuckles with the ABS line brackets on the upper ball studs, torque the top and bottom nuts to 70 ft-lbs (always tighten, never loosen, to line up the cotter pin) and fit new cotter pins; mount the factory tie rod in the outermost knuckle holes at 65 ft-lbs.
  5. Reinstall the axle shafts, supporting them to protect the seals (unit bearing bolts 100 ft-lbs), move the steering stop bolt to the new knuckle (9/16"), thread the flip drag link into the adjusting sleeve (41" eye to eye is a good start) and fit it to the knuckle at 65 ft-lbs, then refit the ABS sensor at 60-80 in-lbs.
  6. Refit the rotors and calipers (anchor bolts 120 ft-lbs) and the wheels (95-115 ft-lbs), lower the Jeep, adjust the track bar to center the axle, set the steering wheel with the drag link sleeve (sleeve bolts 26 ft-lbs) after a test drive, and refit the differential cover with a 3/16" bead of gasket maker (bolts criss-cross to 30 ft-lbs) before filling with oil.
