Description & Fitment
TeraFlex's low-profile HD BellyUp takes the place of the factory skid plate on a 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ or Wrangler Unlimited LJ. TeraFlex says it raises ground clearance there by up to 2-1/4" over the factory plate, about what 4" taller tires would give. It is CNC laser cut and bent from 1/4" steel with a black powder coat. It requires a TeraFlex NP231 Short Shaft or Extreme Short Shaft Kit, some driveline fine tuning, and modification on Rubicon or Atlas transfer cases; TeraFlex lists about three hours of labor.

About TeraFlex
TeraFlex describes itself as a Jeep company at heart, started and staffed by people who drive them. It designs, engineers and builds suspension systems, shocks, axles and performance parts, with the Wrangler and Gladiator at the center of the range.
The company traces its roots to the 1950s and MEPCO (Military Equipment Parts Company), an early supplier of Jeep parts. TeraFlex Manufacturing followed in 1996 to build heavy-duty suspension for the TJ Wrangler, and today's catalog runs from full lift systems and the Falcon shock line to axles, steering and armor.
Authorized TeraFlex dealer. Prestige Truck is an authorized TeraFlex dealer, so what we sell is new and genuine TeraFlex. In TeraFlex's words, its limited warranty extends "only to the consumer who originally purchased the product," so keep your receipt with your build records.
Frequently Asked Questions
What else does it need?
TeraFlex requires one of its NP231 short shaft kits (4444400 Extreme or 4444401). It also recommends a transfer case lowering kit (1900100 or 1900000), especially with a 4" or taller lift, and a 1" body lift (1942100 or 1942101) on Rubicon models.
Does it fit a Rubicon?
Yes, with work: TeraFlex says modifications are required with Rubicon or Atlas transfer cases, and it recommends a 1" body lift on Rubicons for driveshaft clearance.
Will there be driveline vibration?
TeraFlex says some fine tuning and adjustment is required to eliminate driveshaft vibration, and some exhaust adjustment may be needed.
How quickly does it ship?
Shipping is free to the lower 48 states, and most orders arrive within 1-5 business days. We email your tracking number as soon as it ships.
Can you confirm it's the right part before I order?
Yes. Send us your VIN or year, model and your engine, transfer case and the TeraFlex parts you already run, and we'll check it against TeraFlex's fitment information before it ships.
Do I need to read the instructions first?
Yes. TeraFlex asks you to read its instructions fully before you start, check the parts list against the box, and judge whether you have the experience to do the work yourself.
Installation
Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.
- Check the kit is complete and read the warning page for extra steps your application may need; block the rear tires, set the brake and support the transmission with a floor jack.
- On 2003 and newer TJ automatics, remove the stock automatic transmission skid plate (it cannot be used with this kit or on a lifted Jeep).
- Remove the four bolts joining the transmission to the skid plate, loosen the six frame rail bolts, support the factory skid on jack stands, then remove the six bolts and the factory skid.
- On 2002 and earlier TJ automatics, move the existing transmission mounting plate onto the new Belly Up plate.
- Bolt the Belly Up skid to the frame with the original six factory bolts, lining the transmission bolts up with the plate's holes, then fasten the transmission mount to the plate with the factory nuts through the center holes.
- If driveshaft vibration or shift linkage binding follows, use the sheet's troubleshooting: correct pinion angle or fit a transfer case lowering kit, add a 1" body lift, and re-adjust the shift linkage at the trunnion in 4L.

- For a covered defect, TeraFlex will either repair or replace the product (or the faulty part) free of charge or refund the purchase price, at its discretion, and it pays the freight to send a repaired or replacement part back to you.
- Not covered: damage from transportation, storage, improper use, skipped instructions or preventive maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repair, normal wear and tear, product finish, improper installation or maintenance, racing or competition, or accidents, abuse and neglect.
