Description & Fitment
This TeraFlex kit is a complete replacement for the factory gas tank skid plate on a 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ or Wrangler Unlimited LJ. It is CNC laser cut and bent from 3/16" steel with a black powder coat, and a recessed groove gives the track bar and differential room. TeraFlex says it adds 1" of ground clearance, but only together with its HD Gas Tank Skid Plate Spacer Lowering Kit (4970400) or a 1" body lift (1942100 or 1942101), which you need for it to fit. TeraFlex lists about two hours of labor.

Installation
Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.
- Relieve fuel line pressure: pull the fuel pump relay, start the engine and let it idle until it stalls, then disconnect the battery cable and refit the relay; take care not to damage any hoses, fittings or connectors.
- Disconnect the high-pressure and return fuel lines, the sending unit/pump connector and the vapor and vent hoses, remove the fuel cap bezel and refit the cap, and cut the zip tie holding the axle vent hose to the filler hoses.
- Support the tank on a jack (a helper makes balancing it easier), remove the seven bolts/nuts holding it to the frame (leave the strap nuts), and lower it slowly while feeding the hoses and vent lines between the body and frame.
- Move the tank and straps from the factory skid to the TeraFlex HD skid plate, tightening the straps just enough to keep the tank from sliding.
- Raise the tank and skid back into place, routing the hoses and connectors between frame and body (without a body lift, fit one first or use TeraFlex spacer kit P/N 004970400), slide it as far back as possible for differential clearance and tighten the fasteners to 141 inch pounds.
- Reconnect all fuel, vapor and electrical connections, refit the fuel inlet bezel, zip-tie the axle vent hose to the fill hoses, reconnect the battery, start the engine and check for leaks.

TeraFlex's warranty list covers its skid plates for life against defects in materials and workmanship.- TeraFlex extends its limited warranty only to the consumer who first bought the product, and only on the vehicle the part was first installed on. It does not pass to a later owner.
- Coverage starts on the purchase date and does not restart if a part is repaired or replaced.
- For a covered defect, TeraFlex will either repair or replace the product (or the faulty part) free of charge or refund the purchase price, at its discretion, and it pays the freight to send a repaired or replacement part back to you.
- Not covered: damage from transportation, storage, improper use, skipped instructions or preventive maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repair, normal wear and tear, product finish, improper installation or maintenance, racing or competition, or accidents, abuse and neglect. Improper installation, poor maintenance, racing or competition use, and neglect or abuse void the warranty.
- Paint and powder coat finishes carry 90 days of defect coverage only, not wear from use.
- Claims: contact us first. Keep your proof of purchase or original invoice; removing the part from the vehicle and the inbound shipping are the owner's responsibility.
