Description & Fitment

The TeraFlex Pro LCG 4-Link Long Control Arm & Bracket Kit, Rear Upper, is the short-wheelbase version for the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ with 3"-5" of lift. Its frame brackets and rear axle truss convert the factory 5-link rear to a triangulated 4-link, which TeraFlex says frees up flex and clears other components. Moving both the frame-end and axle-end mounts relaxes link angles to cut bushing stress at full droop. Not for the LJ Unlimited (that kit is 1444880).

No. This is the TJ short-wheelbase kit. The LJ long-wheelbase version is 1444880.

What else do I need?

TeraFlex lists the Lower LCG Long Control Arm & Bracket kit (1447700 for the TJ) as required with the upper Pro LCG kits; pair it with the Front Upper kit (1443470) for the full Pro LCG system.

Does it need welding?

Yes. The factory bracketry is cut off, the brackets are stitch welded, and an alignment is required.

What warranty does TeraFlex give?

What's involvedRemove the springs, shocks, control arms and exhaust, cut the factory arm mounts off and weld in the long arm brackets and rear axle truss. Drill the front spring pads, fit the new arms, springs and bump stops, and have a new muffler and tailpipe built.

Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.

  1. Support the TJ under the frame so the axles fully droop, remove the tires, shocks, sway bar links, coil springs and all control arms, support the transmission and remove the transfer case skid plate.
  2. Mark and cut the exhaust header pipe at the patch location and remove the rest of the exhaust (protect the oxygen sensors), then remove the front upper, front lower and rear lower control arm mounts from the frame. The muffler must be replaced with a smaller one and the tailpipe rerouted.
  3. Bolt in the Belly Up skid plate (or modify the factory skid for arm clearance) and mount the transmission to it; have the rear axle truss professionally welded to clean axle tubes, resealing the diff cover.
  4. Fit the rear upper arm frame brackets, the new rear arms and springs, the extended brake hose and sway bar links with the brake tee on the truss (p4); the rear track bar is eliminated.
  5. Front: grind the paint, weld the upper PRO brackets inside the frame rails, fit the upper arms set to about 24-1/2" and the new lowers; the 4" kit uses the adjustable track bar in the stock brackets, the 5" kit welds on a new track bar bracket (p5).
  6. Drill (or drill and tap 3/8-16 where a plate is welded on) the front spring pads, fit the LCG springs with the aluminum bump stop spacers and the bump stops, then have an exhaust shop build the new muffler and tailpipe and weld in the front exhaust patch.

    TeraFlex covers its control arms and IR bushings for life against defects in materials and workmanship. Alpine control arm bushings other than IR carry 1 year, and paint and powder coat finishes 90 days (defects only).
    • TeraFlex extends its limited warranty only to the consumer who first bought the product, and only on the vehicle the part was first installed on. It does not pass to a later owner.
    • Coverage starts on the purchase date and does not restart if a part is repaired or replaced.
    • For a covered defect, TeraFlex will either repair or replace the product (or the faulty part) free of charge or refund the purchase price, at its discretion, and it pays the freight to send a repaired or replacement part back to you.
    • Not covered: damage from transportation, storage, improper use, skipped instructions or preventive maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repair, normal wear and tear, product finish, improper installation or maintenance, racing or competition, or accidents, abuse and neglect. Improper installation, poor maintenance, racing or competition use, and neglect or abuse void the warranty.
    • Paint and powder coat finishes carry 90 days of defect coverage only, not wear from use.
    • Claims: contact us first. Keep your proof of purchase or original invoice; removing the part from the vehicle and the inbound shipping are the owner's responsibility.
