Description & Fitment

TeraFlex Short Control Arms, Front Upper, are adjustable replacement arms for 0"-4" lifts on four Jeep platforms: the 1997-2006 Wrangler TJ and LJ Unlimited, the 1984-2001 Cherokee XJ, the 1993-1998 Grand Cherokee ZJ and the 1986-1992 Comanche MJ. Pick the front upper kit (1613800) or a single arm for either side (1613810, sold individually). The arms are 1.25" x 0.25" wall DOM tube and bolt to the factory brackets; an alignment is required after install.

Does it fit my XJ Cherokee?

Yes. TeraFlex lists the front upper arms for the 1984-2001 XJ Cherokee, as well as the TJ/LJ Wrangler, ZJ Grand Cherokee and MJ Comanche.

Is the single arm side-specific?

No. 1613810 fits either the driver or passenger front upper position and is sold individually.

Do I need an alignment?

Yes. TeraFlex says an alignment is required after installing these arms.

What's involvedSwap the factory upper control arms, no more than two at a time, for FlexArms set to their starting lengths, refitting the rear brake cable bracket and ABS wiring. Torque the bolts on the ground, get a four-wheel alignment and grease the flex joints monthly.

Here's the short version. Follow TeraFlex's install sheet (below) for your Jeep's exact steps and torque values.

  1. Front: raise and support the vehicle and remove no more than two arms at a time; take out the upper axle-side bolt (15mm) and the frame-side bolt (18mm, flag nut) and remove the arm.
  2. Set the new front arm to 15-1/8" as a starting point, snug the jam nut with a 1-1/4" wrench after fitting, and grease the flex joint.
  3. Fit the arm in the axle bracket (most applications use the inner hole) and the frame bracket, finger tight; if only the uppers are being done, lower the vehicle and torque both bolts to 60 ft-lbs.
  4. Rear: raise and support the rear, remove the parking brake cable bracket and ABS wiring if equipped, and remove the factory arm (no more than two arms at a time).
  5. Set the rear arm to 13-1/4", fit the rubber bushing end at the frame and the flex-joint end at the axle with the original hardware finger tight, and refit the brake cable bracket and ABS wiring; lower the vehicle and torque both nuts to 55 ft-lbs.
  6. Have a full four-wheel alignment done and grease the flex joints once a month.

    TeraFlex covers its control arms and IR bushings for life against defects in materials and workmanship. Alpine control arm bushings other than IR carry 1 year, and paint and powder coat finishes 90 days (defects only).
    • TeraFlex extends its limited warranty only to the consumer who first bought the product, and only on the vehicle the part was first installed on. It does not pass to a later owner.
    • Coverage starts on the purchase date and does not restart if a part is repaired or replaced.
    • For a covered defect, TeraFlex will either repair or replace the product (or the faulty part) free of charge or refund the purchase price, at its discretion, and it pays the freight to send a repaired or replacement part back to you.
    • Not covered: damage from transportation, storage, improper use, skipped instructions or preventive maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repair, normal wear and tear, product finish, improper installation or maintenance, racing or competition, or accidents, abuse and neglect. Improper installation, poor maintenance, racing or competition use, and neglect or abuse void the warranty.
    • Paint and powder coat finishes carry 90 days of defect coverage only, not wear from use.
    • Claims: contact us first. Keep your proof of purchase or original invoice; removing the part from the vehicle and the inbound shipping are the owner's responsibility.
