12,000 lb for a Loaded Full-Size Truck Twelve thousand pounds of single-line pull is the sweet spot for half-ton and 3/4-ton pickups once they are carrying armor, a bumper and gear. Warn's guidance is to size the winch at roughly 1.5 times the vehicle's loaded weight, which puts this model comfortably over most full-size trucks with margin left for a suction pull out of deep mud.
176:1 Geartrain Tuned for Pull The 12-S runs a 176:1 reduction through its 3-stage planetary geartrain. No-load line speed is 31 ft/min and rated-load speed is 3 ft/min, drawing 67 amps free and 466 amps at full load. The taller reduction against the 10-S is what buys the extra 2,000 lb of capacity out of the same physical package.
Spydura Pro Rope With Heat-Resistant Inner Wraps The 12-S steps up from standard Spydura to Spydura Pro: the same 3/8" diameter and the same abrasion sleeve, with heat-resistant inner wraps that protect the line against brake heat radiating off the drum during a long, loaded pull. That matters more at 12,000 lb than it does at 10,000.
Sealed to IP68 and IP69K Automotive-grade O-ring sealing runs through the motor, geartrain and control pack, and the complete winch carries both an IP68 submersion rating and an IP69K high-pressure spray rating. Water crossings and a pressure washer aimed at the drum are both inside design intent.
Full Metal Armor and OE-Grade Corrosion Protection Metal armor shields the gear end and control pack from rock strikes and trail debris instead of relying on plastic covers. The satin-black powder coat, black fasteners and UV-resistant bus bar covers are specified to 408 hours of salt spray, so the winch survives winters on salted roads.
Wireless Control From Your Phone, Plus a Corded Remote The HUB wireless receiver is built into the control pack, so the Warn HUB app gives you control from over 100' away and live status while you work. The ruggedized 12' corded remote is included as well, so the winch is never dependent on a phone.
Albright Contactor and Bus Bar Wiring Warn uses an Albright contactor and automotive OE-grade bus bars in place of a conventional solenoid pack. Electrical control is where most winches fail after a few wet seasons, and it is where the XD generation put the most engineering.

Set the winch into the mount and torque the four bolts, fit the fairlead, then route the 2 gauge battery leads to the battery clear of the exhaust and any moving steering or suspension parts. At this capacity the battery and charging system do real work, so check that your battery meets the 650 CCA minimum and run the engine during recoveries. Confirm the clutch lever and remote socket are still reachable with the bumper on, and cycle the winch in and out under no load before you rely on it.

Should I buy the 12-S or the 10-S?
Go by loaded weight, not by badge. Warn's rule is a winch rated at about 1.5 times what your vehicle actually weighs with gear on board. A stock mid-size truck or an SUV lands on the 10-S; a half-ton pickup with a steel bumper, sliders and a loaded bed lands on the 12-S. If you are regularly recovering someone else's truck as well as your own, take the extra capacity.
What is the difference between Spydura and Spydura Pro?
Both are 3/8" synthetic rope with an abrasion sleeve. Spydura Pro adds heat-resistant inner wraps that shield the line from heat coming off the brake in the drum during long, heavily loaded pulls. The 12-S ships with Spydura Pro because it works closer to that limit than the 10-S does.
Will it fit behind my bumper?
Measure first. The XD is 23.89" long and 10.52" tall, which is a full-height winch, not a low-profile one. It suits open winch bumpers and winch plates. If you are trying to hide the winch behind a factory-look bumper or a stubby, look at the ZEON XC 12-S instead, which sits 7.83" tall with its control pack below the tie plate.
What battery and wiring does it need?
A 650 CCA battery is the published minimum for winching. The included leads are 2 gauge and 72" long, which reaches the battery on most full-size trucks; if your battery is further away or you are relocating the control pack, size any extension to match. At rated pull this winch draws 466 amps, so run the engine during a recovery and keep your charging system healthy.
Can I operate it from the cab?
Yes. The HUB wireless receiver is built into the control pack, so the Warn HUB app pairs to the winch and gives you control from over 100' away with live status. The 12' corded remote is in the box too.
Is the rope covered by the warranty?
No, and this catches people out. The mechanical warranty is limited lifetime and the electrical warranty is seven years, but the rope, the finish and any damage from overloading or improper installation are excluded. Treat the rope as a wear item: keep it clean, inspect the sleeve after rocky pulls, and re-spool it under light tension so it does not bury a loaded wrap into the layers below.

I never knew how much I needed this
As with all BAK covers, the quality is amazing. What I didnt fully appreciate until installing was the ease of opening - especially in a lifted truck. No more need to find the right handhold. Just roll it back with a single hand. Its also great to see out of my rear window when fully open - something you lose with the fold back covers. Customer service is awesome. I has an installation question and the representative stayed on the line as I adjusted an alignment to ensure I did it properly.

Better then expected.
Searched for about 6 months to find the tonneau cover. I really wanted the security of a hard top without sticking above the bed rails it checked those boxes. I also did not want to drill my truck bed. The install was super simple my wife and I had it on the truck in about a half an hour.
