How the 1Key UltraLock System Works

A step-by-step look from Weather Guard at what the 1Key UltraLock actually does: how the cylinder accepts a new code, why the red push button retracts when the box is locked, and how the latch pulls the lid down against the seal. Worth two minutes before you set the box up.

How to Code Your 1Key UltraLock Lock

Weather Guard's official walkthrough for coding the lock so this box opens with the same key as the rest of your Weather Guard boxes. Follow it once when the box arrives and you can stop carrying a separate key for every lid on the truck.

Protect Your Gear and Your Reputation

Weather Guard's own film on why a working truck earns its keep from what is bolted to it. It frames the boxes, racks and bed equipment as the difference between arriving ready and arriving short, which is the thing a customer actually notices. It is a short manufacturer-made overview rather than a product demo, so watch it for the why rather than the how. If you are outfitting a truck from scratch it is a useful place to start before you pick individual part numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on specs, fit and support

What bed size do I need for the 174-52-04?

This box is 56" long and mounts on one bed side rail, so it fits most full-size 6'6" and 8' beds easily, fits many 5'6" short beds, and fits a lot of mid-size trucks. Measure your usable side rail length and confirm clearance behind the cab before ordering.

What is the finish on the 174-52-04?

It is aluminum diamond plate finished in Textured Matte Black ARMOR TUF powder coat. The matte, low-glare surface hides dust, fingerprints and fine scratches better than gloss, giving the box a stealthy, blacked-out look.

Matte black or gloss black, which should I pick?

Pick textured matte black if you want a stealthy, no-shine look that hides dust, fingerprints and light scratches, which suits off-road and blacked-out builds. Choose gloss black instead if you want a deep, reflective shine.

Can I run electrical accessories with it?

Yes. The box includes 12V access for electrical upfits, so you can wire in lights or other accessories, and enhanced tie-down buckles give you extra clearance for straps on the lid.

How does it lock?

It uses the Weather Guard 1Key UltraLock, a tamper-resistant design that pairs a keyed cylinder with a recessed red push-button that sits flush when locked. The 1Key system also lets you code multiple boxes on a truck or an entire fleet to a single key.

Does it require drilling to install?

No. The box ships with under-rail clamps and hardware, so it mounts on top of either bed side rail without drilling into your truck. Most installs take about 20 to 30 minutes, and a second person makes the longer box much easier to lift and hold while you clamp it down.

These are very well made. I found the mounting to be a little bit of a pain in the rear, not really clear instruction just a bunch of nuts and bolts in a bag in the end it came out great and is solid as a rock.

Great Product

I've had several of these boxes and they are dependable, Instruction on bolt installation is a little vague. The black gets hot in the summer.

Manage your expectations

I didn’t follow the directions. I wanted to keep my ability to load 4X8 sheets, so I adjusted the placement of the rear support bracket. The other side was connected to my cross box. Didn’t use some of the hardware provided. Bought my own. When you buy weather guard boxes, you are paying for the quality of the mechanisms. Btw, not a fan of the Defender series. Good luck

The best boxes available

Weatherguard makes the best boxes you can buy. I've been using them for 20+ years in oil and gas and yet to break one. They seal up watertight. Great boxes

Very well made!

I have another brand on my 5 other trucks and was not real happy with them, so I thought I would try something different. These are by far better made and appear to be heavier gauge material. We will see how they hold up long term, but I am very happy with what I see so far!!

Weatherboard side mount tool box

I bought weatherboard side boxes, to add to a cross box installed years ago. I appreciate the construction quality and these didn’t disappoint. Easy to install and they hold a lot of tools.

Opened the box and it had a dent in it. One tool box didn’t come with keys

Tool Box

Bought a couple of weeks ago, seems sturdy and like the front lock instead of the side. Put one on each side of the truck. don't like the brackets on the side, they keep from being able to slide plywood or other 4' wide items under the box, but understand they are needed to support the weight of the box

The toolbox was shipped very quickly and you can't beat the free shipping on it. The quality of the box is great overall but I do question the seals on the box. Its done a great job keeping out moisture but there is a lot of dust getting in the box.
