  • Fits flatbed and dump bodies: Built to hang below the deck of a flatbed, platform or dump body, it turns the empty space under the deck into storage you can lock.
  • Aluminum door and hinge: Weather Guard gives its steel underbed boxes an aluminum door and hinge to save weight and fight corrosion (its listing for the compact 525 leaves this out). The 600 series boxes are built in aluminum.
  • Rain gutter + weather seal: A rain gutter runs above the opening and a full seal rings the door, so rain and road spray stay off the tools inside.
  • Stainless D-handle: The stainless steel D-handle is easy to grab in work gloves, and closing the door with it pulls the door snug against the seal.
  • Quick-release door: QuickClips let the door stop at 90 degrees or drop all the way to 180 degrees, and you change between the two without tools.
  • Three-point latching: A heavy-duty latch holds the door at three points, so it stays shut and your supplies stay protected between jobs.

Fitment & Compatibility

Check your fit: this box hangs below the deck of a flatbed, platform or dump body, not inside a pickup bed. Measure the open space under your deck against its 36.63" L x 18" W x 18" H footprint and check the 13.5" H x 31.25" W door opening will clear your body's frame and fittings. It mounts on Type "A" or Type "B" brackets.

Not for: pickup beds without a flatbed, platform or dump body. Same box in another finish: 636-0-02. Other 36" underbed boxes: 536-5-02, 538-5-02. Not included: mounting brackets and hardware, which Weather Guard leaves to your truck equipment dealer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the 636-5-02 fit under my body?

Measure the space under your deck between the frame and the body edge. The box needs 36.63" L x 18" W x 18" H overall, plus room for the brackets, and the door opens down to 180 degrees, so leave clearance below it.

Can I mount it on top of a stake bed?

Weather Guard allows a stake-bed top mount as long as the whole bottom of the box is supported. Otherwise it goes under the body on Type "A" or Type "B" brackets.

Does this box go inside a pickup bed?

No. Weather Guard builds it to hang under the deck of a flatbed, platform or dump body. For storage inside a pickup bed, look at Weather Guard's crossover, Lo-Side or chest boxes.

Are the mounting brackets included?

No, mounting hardware is not in the box. Weather Guard's sheet says chassis vary, so it sends you to a truck equipment dealer for the brackets and the mounting steps. If you make your own brackets or angles, the sheet calls for steel at least 1/4" thick, and every box must sit on Type "A" or Type "B" brackets.

How far does the door open?

The QuickClips hold the door at 90 degrees, or you can let it swing down to 180 degrees. Switching between the two takes no tools.

Can I get several boxes on one key?

Weather Guard lists keyed-alike locks as available on request. Contact us before you order if you want more than one box on the same key, and we will check it with Weather Guard.

Installation

Here's the short version. Follow Weather Guard's install sheet (below) for the exact positions and hardware.

  1. Mount every steel or aluminum underbed box on Type "A" or Type "B" brackets, as shown. Mounting it any other way can damage the box.
  2. For a stake-bed top mount, support the whole bottom of the box.
  3. On 24" deep underbeds, add a third Type "A" bracket in the center, or a third cross brace in the center of the Type "B" brackets.
  4. Chassis vary, so get the mounting procedure and brackets from a truck equipment dealer. If you make your own brackets or angles, use steel no thinner than 1/4".
  5. Before you drill, check behind and under each spot for wires, fuel lines and brake lines. Wear eye protection.

    • Only the original purchaser is covered, and coverage ends if the box passes to a new owner.

    • Werner Co. picks the remedy: it repairs the faulty part or replaces the whole box at no charge for parts or labor, or it may refund what you paid or issue a credit toward a new Weather Guard product.
    • Not covered: normal wear and tear, cosmetic rust, scratches, accident damage, repairs Werner Co. did not authorize, misuse, overloading, or a box that was not mounted or used as Weather Guard's written instructions describe. Sturdy and weather proof.

I used this as a high side box since the dimensions worked for my needs. I ran it through the car wash and the inside was totally dry. Only dinged 1 star because one key doesnt work and the other is tricky but works. Hopefully tumblers will loosen up like they did on my cross box.
