Ford Maverick Bed Size: FLEXBED Dimensions and What Fits

BAKFlip MX4 hard folding tonneau cover on a 2022 Ford Maverick in a studio

How we made this guide: picks and specs come from our catalog and fitment data, owner quotes come from verified reviews and the guide was drafted with AI help, then checked and edited by Trevor Hall.

Every Ford Maverick has the same 4.5-foot bed, the FLEXBED: Ford lists it at 54.4 inches long at the floor and 53.1 inches at the top of the box. Ford also lists 53.3 inches of exposed cargo width, 42.6 inches between the wheel wells, a body height of 20.3 inches and 33.3 cubic feet of volume. Every Maverick is a SuperCrew, so there is no short or long bed to choose between.

If you are shopping for a cover, the same size question has a short answer: one bed, and almost always one part per series. Our Maverick tonneau covers start at $339.99 for the Extang Trifecta E-Series, and the BAKFlip MX4, which opens the whole bed, is from $1,199.99.

Ford Maverick bed dimensions

These are the figures from Ford's Maverick technical specifications. The 2022, 2025 and 2026 sheets give the same numbers for every version, including the hybrid, the gas AWD model, the Tremor and the Lobo.

Years Cab Bed name Length at floor Length at top of box Exposed cargo width Between wheel wells Body height Volume
2022 to 2026 SuperCrew FLEXBED, 4.5-ft box 54.4 in 53.1 in 53.3 in 42.6 in 20.3 in 33.3 cu ft

Ford's technical specifications for the 2022, 2025 and 2026 Maverick list the same bed figures, so the box has not changed. Most cover parts run 2022 to 2026, but check the year range on the part: the UnderCover ArmorFlex stops at 2025, and the Access soft roll-ups and LOMAX Stance run to 2027. Ford's 54.4 inches is measured at the floor of the box, while a cover spans the top, so the next two sections matter.

One bed for 2022 to 2026

No second bed length has been offered. The 2025 update brought the Lobo and an all-wheel-drive hybrid, but Ford's bed figures did not change. Our catalog holds 38 cover series for the truck, and all but two make a single part for this bed. The Roll-N-Lock M-Series and M-Series XT are listed under both the 4'4" and 4'6" labels at the same price.

The FLEXBED adds features rather than sizes. Its walls are stamped with slots that take 2x4 and 2x6 boards, so owners build shelves, dividers and a raised deck. Ford also offers bolt-in sliding tie-down rails. Neither changes which cover you buy, but both change how you load. A board in a slot has to stay below the rail line or the cover will not close, and a tie-down uses the same wall space the cover clamps grip.

A 2026 owner who wants UnderCover should look at the Flex or Ultra Flex, since the ArmorFlex stops at 2025.

Why covers list a 4'4" or 4'6" bed

Ford calls it a 4.5-foot box, while cover makers print a size in feet and inches, and they split. In our fitment data 29 Maverick listings say 4'4", 9 say 4'6" and 2 give no bed size. TruXedo's covers and the LOMAX Stance carry the 4'6" label, and the Roll-N-Lock M-Series and M-Series XT appear under both. Everyone else says 4'4".

It is one bed. Ford measures it at 54.4 inches along the floor but 53.1 inches at the top of the box, which is where a cover sits, and 53.1 inches is about 4 feet 5 inches. The 4'4" and 4'6" labels fall about an inch either side of that, so both describe the same bed. Ford does not say which label is closer. Do not let the label settle the order. The vehicle selector on the product page sends you to the part that fits.

Check fit for your truck

How to check your bed in three steps

  1. Empty the bed and latch the tailgate shut, since the cover's rear seal meets its inner face.
  2. At rail height, stretch the tape from the front wall's inner face back to the tailgate's inner face. Measure both rails and use the lower figure.
  3. Divide by 12 and match it to the listing for your year. Ford lists 53.1 inches at the top of the box, about 4 feet 5 inches, so a reading near that is the Maverick bed, listed as 4'4" or 4'6".

The full method, with a bed size chart for other trucks, is in how to measure your truck bed for a tonneau cover. Since every Maverick has the same bed, the check is mostly a way to confirm that a listing is for your truck.

What fits: covers for the Maverick bed

Because the bed is fixed, your decision is how much floor you want back with the cover open, whether a rack goes on top and the budget. Our best tonneau covers for the Ford Maverick guide ranks the field. This is how the four covers below compare on the 54.4 inches.

The Revolver X4s is the one cover here with a Maverick install film, and owners of the truck have reviewed it. One 2023 Maverick owner wrote:

“Installation was easy, and the cover fit perfectly well without any adjustments or spacers. It sits flat over the bed and looks great.”

BAK Revolver X4s owner · 5 out of 5 stars

The same owner is clear that the cover has no key of its own and relies on the tailgate. A second reviewer, also on a 2023 Maverick, worried about small openings beside the tailgate where rain could get in. In two of the three Maverick reviews we hold, a plastic end cap was broken when the box was opened, and BAK posted new caps to one of those buyers. If dry cargo matters most, check those corners first.

For how folding, roll-up and retractable styles differ, see types of truck bed covers. Whatever you choose, a folding or roll-up cover is only as secure as a locked tailgate, so lock it if your Maverick has a tailgate lock (Ford lists a power tailgate lock on the 2026 XLT). The RetraxPRO MX handle takes a key, though Retrax too wants the tailgate locked.

What fits inside a Maverick bed

The number that decides most loads is 42.6 inches between the wheel wells. A 4x8 sheet is 48 inches wide, so it will not lie flat on the floor between them, and the floor is only 54.4 inches long, so the sheet reaches past the tailgate anyway. Ford's answer is the multi-position tailgate: locked in its mid position, it lines up with the tops of the wheel wells, so a 4x8 sheet lies flat across the wheel wells and the tailgate. Ford's 2026 spec sheet lists the rear opening at 48.8 inches low and 49.8 inches at the top of the box, so a 48-inch sheet clears it. A load carried that way cannot go under a closed cover, so the cover stays open or off.

Anything longer than the 54.4-inch floor, such as a dirt bike or a kayak, hangs past the tailgate. Haul it with the tailgate at its mid stop or open flat and the cover folded, rolled back or off, because a cover only closes over a closed tailgate.

The same math covers other loads. Anything narrower than 42.6 inches sits between the wheel wells. Ford lists the box as 20.3 inches deep from floor to rail, and a closed cover's frame and clamps sit at or just below the rails, so a load that rides under a cover must stay a little lower than that. Anything taller needs the cover folded against the cab or removed. If you want a rack on top of the cover, the RetraxPRO XR has T-slot rails and a 500 lb rating. Our full tonneau cover range lets you compare every type by bed.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a Ford Maverick bed?

Ford lists 54.4 inches at the floor and 53.1 inches at the top of the box, about 4.5 feet, for the FLEXBED. Cover makers list the same bed as 4'4" or 4'6". It is the only bed the Maverick comes with.

Is the Maverick bed the same size for every year?

Yes. Ford's technical specifications for the 2022, 2025 and 2026 Maverick list the same 54.4-inch floor length, 42.6 inches between the wheel wells and 33.3 cubic feet. Check the year range on the part you order, because a few covers stop at 2025 or run to 2027.

What is the difference in bed size between a Ford Maverick and a Ranger?

The Maverick bed is shorter. Cover listings show the 2024 to 2026 Ranger at 5 feet and the 2019 to 2023 Ranger at 5'1" or 6'1", against 4'4" or 4'6" for the Maverick. Those are cover labels, not Ford's own bed figures.

How does the Maverick bed compare with an F-150?

The F-150 is sold with 5.5, 6.5 and 8-foot boxes, which covers list as 5'7", 6'7" and 8'. The Maverick's 4.5-foot box is shorter than all three. Our guide to F-150 bed size by year and cab has that truck in full.

How much cargo space does the Maverick have?

Ford lists 33.3 cubic feet of cargo volume. That is the same for the hybrid, the gas AWD model, the Tremor and the Lobo.

Can a Maverick carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood?

Not flat on the floor. The wheel wells are 42.6 inches apart and a sheet is 48 inches wide. Ford's answer is to lock the multi-position tailgate in its mid position, where it lines up with the wheel wells, and lay the sheet across them, with the cover open or off.
