How we made this guide: picks and specs come from our catalog and fitment data, owner quotes come from verified reviews and the guide was drafted with AI help, then checked and edited by Trevor Hall.

A Nissan Frontier has one of two beds: a 5-foot standard bed (59.5 inches at the floor) on most Crew Cabs, and a 6-foot long bed (73.3 inches) on every King Cab and on long-bed Crew Cabs, on both the 2005 to 2021 and the 2022 to 2026 truck. Tonneau covers for them are listed as 5' and 6'1" (some brands use 4'11" or 6'), and a soft folding cover such as the Extang Trifecta 2.0 starts at $469.99 for either bed.

Nissan's figures differ a little between the second generation (D40, sold through 2021) and the third (D41, 2022 on), so start with your model year, then your bed. The numbers below come from Nissan's 2021, 2022, 2025 and 2026 press kits.

Quick answer

Standard bed: 59.5 inches at the floor on both generations (58.9 with Nissan's spray-in bedliner), on Crew Cabs. Long bed: 73.3 inches on both generations (72.7 with the liner), on every King Cab and on long-bed Crew Cabs. Between the wheel wells: 44.4 inches (2021) or 44.5 inches (2022 on). Cover labels: 5' for the standard bed and 6'1" for the long bed.

Nissan Frontier bed dimensions by generation

Years Cab Nissan bed name Cover label Length at floor Between wheel wells Depth Volume
2022 to 2026 (D41) Crew Cab Standard bed 5' 59.5 in (58.9 with spray-in liner) 44.5 in 19.4 in 40.1 cu ft (39.6 with liner)

2005 to 2021 (D40) Crew Cab Standard bed 5' (4'11" on some brands) 59.5 in 44.4 in 18 in 37.4 cu ft
2005 to 2021 (D40) King Cab; long-bed Crew Cab (SV long wheelbase in 2021) Long bed 6'1" (6' and 6'2" on some brands) 73.3 in 44.4 in 18 in 46.4 cu ft

The D40 rows are from Nissan's 2021 press kit. The D41 rows are from Nissan's 2022 press kit; its 2025 and 2026 kits list the same lengths, width, depth and volume.

2022 and newer Frontier (D41)

The redesigned Frontier kept two beds. The standard bed is 59.5 inches long at the floor and comes on the Crew Cab. The long bed is 73.3 inches and comes on every King Cab, plus long-bed Crew Cabs: the SV in 2022, the SV, SL and PRO-4X in 2025, and the SV and PRO-4X in 2026. The long bed is 13.8 inches longer and holds 9.5 cubic feet more, 49.6 against 40.1.

The bed also got deeper. Nissan lists 19.4 inches on both D41 beds against 18 inches on the 2021 truck, an extra 1.4 inches of wall. The width between the wheel wells barely moved, 44.5 inches against 44.4. Nissan's kit also lists the standard bed at 58.9 inches long and 39.6 cubic feet with the spray-in bedliner fitted, so a lined truck gives up about half an inch of floor. The long bed loses the same 0.6 inch, to 72.7.

Our cover listings use the same 5' and 6'1" labels for every 2022 to 2026 truck (BAK also uses 6'), but some brands sell separate 2022 to 2023 and 2024 to 2026 parts, so choose your exact model year in the selector. Nissan's 2025 and 2026 press kits list the same length, width, depth and volume as the 2022 kit, so these figures cover 2022 to 2026 trucks.

2005 to 2021 Frontier (D40)

The second generation kept the same two beds. Nissan's 2021 press kit lists the standard bed at 59.5 inches and the long bed at 73.3 inches, both 44.4 inches between the wheel wells and 18 inches deep. Volume is 37.4 cubic feet for the standard bed and 46.4 for the long bed, a gap of 9 cubic feet.

Length did not change with the 2022 redesign: Nissan lists 59.5 and 73.3 inches for both generations. Covers are still sold as separate 2005 to 2021 and 2022 to 2026 parts, so buy the one for your model year.

In Nissan's 2021 kit every King Cab has the long bed, and the Crew Cab has the standard bed except the SV long wheelbase model. A Crew Cab has four full-size doors; a King Cab has two, plus small rear-hinged access doors. A tape measure settles the bed.

Why covers are listed at a different size than Nissan's

Nissan calls the beds "5-foot" and "6-foot" in round numbers. Cover makers label the actual length of the bed instead, and the brands round differently:

  • The standard bed measures 59.5 inches, which is 4 feet 11.5 inches. Most brands list it as 5'. Some 2005 to 2021 listings round down to 4'11".
  • The long bed measures 73.3 inches on both generations, about 6 feet 1 inch. Most brands list 6'1". BAK uses 6' and 6'2" on some parts.
  • One label does not tell you the generation. The 5' and 6'1" sizes each appear on both D40 and D41 parts, so always choose by model year first.
  • Our fitment data also lists a 6'3" label for 1998 to 2004 trucks, where the only cover we carry is the TruXedo TruXport. Nissan's dimensions for that first-generation truck are not listed here.

On 2005 to 2021 trucks, 4'11" and 5' listings are the same standard bed.

How to check your bed

  1. Shut the tailgate and empty the bed.
  2. Stretch a tape across the rail top, from the bulkhead face to the closed tailgate's inner face.
  3. Divide the reading by 12 and match it to the table: roughly 60 inches is the standard bed, roughly 73 inches is the long bed.

Where you put the tape matters, and our bed measuring guide covers it. Use the table to tell which bed you have, then buy by year and bed.

The RetraxPRO MX stores in a housing against the cab and stops wherever you leave it. That canister sits at the front of the floor, so on a 59.5 inch standard bed it costs some length that a hard folder stacked against the cab does not. It starts at $2,149.99 for the 2022 to 2026 standard bed and $2,249.99 for the long bed. It is rated for 500 lb evenly distributed. Like every folding or retractable cover, it depends on a locked tailgate for security.

The Revolver X4s is listed at 5' for both generations and at 6' for the long bed (6'2" on some 2010 to 2021 parts). The long-bed part starts at $1,479.99. One owner who had an X4s on an F-150 and bought a second one for a new Frontier wrote:

“We have had a lot of heavy rain lately, and very little water has gotten in around the tailgate, even while driving.”

BAK Revolver X4s owner · 5 out of 5 stars

That is one owner, not a promise: 18 of the 200 X4s reviews we checked mention leaks and 22 mention damage, such as powder-coat chips on arrival, so compare it with the TruXedo Sentry and Roll-N-Lock in our hard roll-up cover guide.

Rails, caps and sport bars change the part

Length picks the size, and factory options pick the version. On 2005 to 2021 trucks, the factory side rail caps must be fitted before Extang's Solid Fold ALX, Endure ALX or Trifecta e-Series will go on. UnderCover splits its 2005 to 2021 Flex into track and no-track versions. On 2022 and 2023 trucks, TruXedo and UnderCover parts expect the sport bars to be removed. Roll-N-Lock's M-Series and M-Series XT for the 2022 to 2026 5 ft bed require Utili-Track, the factory channel that carries sliding tie-down cleats. To compare cover styles first, read types of truck bed covers or browse all tonneau covers.

What fits in a Frontier bed

  • Plywood: A 4x8 sheet is 48 inches wide, wider than the 44.4 or 44.5 inches between the Frontier's wheel wells, so it will not lie flat on the floor. It is 96 inches long, which is 22.7 inches longer than the long bed floor on either generation and 36.5 inches longer than the standard one.
  • Length: the long bed adds 13.8 inches of floor over the standard bed on both generations.
  • Long loads: anything longer than the floor rides with the tailgate down and the cover open or off. The Trifecta 2.0 lifts off by hand, a BAKFlip MX4 folds up against the cab and the RetraxPRO MX slides into its canister.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the bed on a 2022 to 2026 Nissan Frontier?

The standard bed is 59.5 inches at the floor and the long bed 73.3 inches, in Nissan's 2022, 2025 and 2026 press kits (58.9 and 72.7 with the factory spray-in bedliner). Both are 44.5 inches between the wheel wells and 19.4 inches deep. Covers list them as 5' and 6'1".

What size tonneau cover fits a 2021 Frontier?

Choose the 5' (some brands 4'11") for the Crew Cab standard bed, or the 6'1" for the long bed (BAK lists 6' or 6'2" on some parts). Nissan's 2021 kit lists them at 59.5 and 73.3 inches. Pick a part labeled for the 2005 to 2021 span, since the 2022 on parts are cut for a different truck.

Is the King Cab bed the long bed?

Yes. Every King Cab has the 6-foot long bed (for 2026 the King Cab comes only as the S). A Crew Cab has the 5-foot bed unless it is a long-bed model: the SV in 2021 and 2022, the SV, SL or PRO-4X in 2025, and the SV or PRO-4X in 2026, per Nissan's press kits. Check the cab and bed on your own truck before you order.

Will a 5 ft cover fit a 6 ft Frontier bed?

No. The long bed is 13.8 inches longer, and covers are made to one bed length. Buy the part labeled for your bed. If a listing shows 4'11" for your years, it is the same standard bed as the 5' parts.

Are the 2021 and 2022 Frontier beds the same size?

Same length, different depth. Nissan lists 59.5 and 73.3 inches for both, but the 2022 bed is 19.4 inches deep against 18, and 44.5 inches between the wheel wells against 44.4. Covers are still sold as separate 2005 to 2021 and 2022 to 2026 parts, so buy for your years.

Does the spray-in bedliner change the Frontier's bed size?

Slightly. Nissan lists the standard bed at 58.9 inches and 39.6 cubic feet with its factory spray-in bedliner, against 59.5 and 40.1 bare, and the long bed at 72.7 inches and 49.2 cubic feet against 73.3 and 49.6. Cover labels stay the same: 5' and 6'1".
