The Ram 2500 and 3500 come with two bed lengths: a 6 ft 4 in box (76.3 in at the floor, Crew Cab and Mega Cab) and an 8 ft box (98.3 in at the floor, Regular Cab and Crew Cab). Both are 66.4 in wide wall to wall and 51.0 in between the wheel wells, from Ram's spec sheets.

Ram 2500 and 3500 bed dimensions

These figures come from Ram's 2018 HD catalog and Ram's 2020 Ram 2500 specification sheet. The 2018 catalog is for the 2018 model year, the last of the 2010 to 2018 fourth generation, and the 2020 sheet is for the 2020 model year of the fifth generation (2019 and newer). A cell marked not published is a figure our Ram sources do not give, so we left it out rather than guess.

Ram's 2018 catalog gives the same box figures for the 3500 dually, so the 2500 and 3500 share these two beds. Ram measures the length at the floor with the tailgate closed. Covers are sized along the top of the side rails, so a tape reading there can differ slightly.

2019 and newer: the fifth generation

Ram's 2020 sheet is the newest one we have. It matches the 2018 catalog on width, depth and the 8 ft length, so as far as the published figures go, the two boxes carried over into the new body. Full maker dimensions for 2019 and 2021 to 2026 are not listed here. Ram's 2026 Heavy Duty towing and payload chart still lists the same two beds, 6'4" and 8'. For those years we go by cover fitment, where 6'4" and 8' both appear for 2019 to 2027 trucks.

The 2003 to 2009 trucks list 6'4" and 8' beds (two listings use 6'6" for 2003 to 2008). The 1994 to 2002 trucks list 6'6" and 8'. We have no maker dimensions for these, so measure before you order.

Why cover makers list 8' or 8'2" for the same bed

The 6 ft 4 in box is easy, since 76.3 in matches the cover label. The 8 ft box is where labels split: at 98.3 in it is 8 ft 2.3 in, and cover brands round it two ways. Across all years in our fitment data, 145 listings use 8' and 8 use 8'2"; the 8'2" listings are Roll-N-Lock M-Series and M-Series XT parts for 2010 to 2026 trucks.

Plywood comes in 4 by 8 ft sheets that are 48 in across. The boxes measure 51.0 in between the wheel wells, so a sheet rests flat on the floor in either bed. The 8 ft box runs 98.3 in at the floor, enough to close the tailgate on a 96 in sheet. The 6'4" box is 76.3 in, so a full sheet needs the tailgate down. Ram's 2020 sheet gives a 60.4 in tailgate opening, so a 48 in sheet slides in square. Depth is about 20 in, so taller loads stand above the rails, which favors a cover you can fold or roll back.
