Tundra Bed Size by Generation: 5.5, 6.5 and 8.1 ft Beds

How we made this guide: picks and specs come from our catalog and fitment data, owner quotes come from verified reviews and the guide was drafted with AI help, then checked and edited by Trevor Hall.

The 2022 to 2026 Toyota Tundra comes with a 5.5-ft, 6.5-ft or 8.1-ft bed. Toyota lists them at 65.6, 77.6 and 96.5 inches long at the floor, and every one is 48.7 inches wide between the wheel wells. The CrewMax comes with the 5.5-ft or 6.5-ft bed, and the Double Cab with the 6.5-ft or 8.1-ft bed.

In our range, covers for these beds start at $339.99 for the Extang Trifecta e-Series soft folding cover on the short bed. Covers use their own labels for the same boxes: 5'7" for the 5.5-ft bed, 6'7" for the 6.5-ft bed and 8'1" or 8' for the long bed.

Quick answer

2022 to 2026: a 5.5-ft bed (65.6 in) on the CrewMax, a 6.5-ft bed (77.6 in) on the CrewMax or Double Cab and an 8.1-ft bed (96.5 in) on the Double Cab. All three are 48.7 in between the wheel wells and 20.9 in deep (Toyota, 2025 model). The 2007 to 2021 truck has 5.5, 6.5 and 8-ft beds, listed on covers as 5'7", 6'7" and 8' or 8'2". No cover we carry spans 2021 and 2022, so start with your model year.

Tundra bed dimensions by generation

This table holds only numbers Toyota publishes. Toyota's product information for the 2025 model gives the third-generation rows and Toyota's 2014 Tundra specifications give the 2014 to 2021 rows. A cell that says not listed means Toyota a measurement Toyota does not publish in the data we read. We do not estimate or convert the missing cells.

Toyota also lists a 58.7 in bed width for all three third-generation beds without saying where on the bed it is measured, so we leave it out of the table. Toyota gives no top-rail length. Toyota's 2025 page and its 2014 specifications are the source for every number above, and our fitment data lists the same three bed lengths for 2022 to 2026, but we have not read each 2022 to 2026 model year separately. If you need an exact number for a 2022 or 2023 truck, measure your own bed.

2022 to 2026 Tundra: the third generation

The third-generation Tundra drops the Regular Cab, so it comes as a Double Cab or CrewMax only. Toyota sells the CrewMax with the 5.5-ft or 6.5-ft bed and the Double Cab with the 6.5-ft or 8.1-ft bed, and lists the 6.5-ft bed at 77.6 inches on both. The bed is sheet-molded compound with aluminum cross members, which Toyota says resists dents, dings and rust better than a steel deck.

The 6.5-ft bed is 12.0 inches longer than the 5.5-ft bed at the floor, and the 8.1-ft bed adds another 18.9 inches. All three share the same listed width between the wheel wells and the same listed depth. The covers we carry for the three beds are not equal: our fitment data counts 47 series for the short bed, 36 for the standard bed and just 3 for the long bed.

Factory options matter as much as length. The optional Deck Rail System runs sliding-cleat tracks along the bed walls, where cover rails would normally clamp. Some covers are sold in rail and no-rail versions, and a few are built for rail trucks only. Before ordering, also check the Trail Special Edition package and the factory spray-in liner with the molded Tundra nameplate, because individual covers exclude one or both. The fit notes on each product page spell out which.

2007 to 2021 Tundra: the second generation

Toyota's 2014 specifications list the standard 6.5-ft bed at 78.7 inches long, 50.0 inches between the wheel wells, 65.0 inches wall to wall and 22.2 inches deep, and Toyota says every bed of this truck is 22.2 inches deep. That makes the 2022 to 2026 bed 1.1 inches shorter, 1.3 inches narrower between the wheel wells and 1.3 inches shallower. Toyota's lengths for the 5.5-ft and 8-ft beds, and its figures for 2007 to 2013, are not listed here, so we give those bed lengths the way cover makers do. Our fitment data lists three beds for 2007 to 2021: 5'7" (the 5.5-ft bed, CrewMax), 6'7" (the 6.5-ft bed, Double Cab and Regular Cab) and 8'2" (the 8-ft bed, Double Cab and Regular Cab). Some brands write the long bed as 8'.

A 2007 to 2021 cover will not fit a 2022 to 2026 truck. The labels are the same, but every part we carry is listed for 2007 to 2021 or for 2022 to 2026, never both, and Toyota's figures show the newer bed is narrower and shallower. A 5'7" cover for a 2019 Tundra and a 5'7" cover for a 2024 Tundra are different parts, and the price can differ: the BAKFlip MX4 is $1,199.99 for the older truck and $1,249.99 for the newer one.

Before 2007 the Tundra had its own labels. Our data lists 6'2", 6'3", 6'4" and 6'5" beds for the 2000 to 2006 truck, and the covers for those years are a separate set. If you have an older truck, shop by year first and use the bed length second.

Why a Tundra cover lists a different size than Toyota

Toyota names beds in round numbers: 5.5, 6.5 and 8.1 feet. Cover makers write the length in feet and inches, and they do not always agree. In our fitment data the 5.5-ft bed is 5'7" on most listings and, on 2022 to 2026 parts, 5'6" on TruXedo's. The 6.5-ft bed is 6'7" on most listings and 6'6" on TruXedo's. On 2022 to 2026 parts the long bed is 8'1" or 8'; 8'2" appears only on 2007 to 2021 parts. That is why is why Toyota's own number is easiest to use when you are checking your truck.

Across the Tundra covers we list, the labels are 5'7" on 133 listings and 6'7" on 95, with the other labels spread thinly. So when a listing says 5'6" or 6'6", it is the same bed with the other brand's rounding. Pick the row for your year and cab, then treat every label in that row as the same bed.

How to check your bed

  1. Clear the bed and close the tailgate.
  2. Stretch a tape measure over the side rail, starting at the front wall of the bed and ending where the closed tailgate begins.
  3. Match the reading to the nearest bed for your year in the table above. A reading of about 66 inches is the 5.5-ft bed, about 78 inches the 6.5-ft bed and about 96 to 97 inches the 8.1-ft bed. A tape reading will not match Toyota's floor figure to the inch, so pick the closest bed.

The key-lockable handle locks the cover itself, but the tailgate still opens on its own, and Retrax says a locking tailgate completes the setup, so lock the tailgate too. The same owner noted that a 2023 Tundra has only two small drain holes in the floor, and the Retrax kit came with adapters for them.

Not every owner stays as dry: a few 3-star RetraxPRO MX reviews report leaks, one from the middle of the cover and one at the drain hoses.

For the 8.1-ft long bed we carry three covers, and all three are listed only for trucks with the Deck Rail System: the Access Original soft roll-up at $602.65, the TruXedo Pro X15 TS soft roll-up at $719.99 and the RetraxPRO XR retractable, the only hard cover we list for it, at $2,499.99. A long bed without the Deck Rail System has no cover in our range.

What fits in a Tundra bed

A 4x8 sheet of plywood is 48 inches wide, and Toyota lists 48.7 inches between the wheel wells on every 2022 to 2026 bed. That is under an inch of spare room, so a sheet lies flat on the floor with no angling. Sheet length is 96 inches. The 8.1-ft bed is listed at 96.5 inches at the floor, so a sheet only just fits with the tailgate up. On the 6.5-ft bed (77.6 inches) and the 5.5-ft bed (65.6 inches), lower the tailgate to haul a full sheet.

The 20.9-inch depth tells you how tall a load can be before it rises above the walls. If something sits higher than that, a tonneau cover will not close over it, which is a reason to choose a folding cover that lifts clear or a retractable one that stops at any point. We do not publish a bed volume for the Tundra because Toyota's data does not list one.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a Toyota Tundra CrewMax with a 5.5 bed?

Toyota lists the 5.5-ft bed at 65.6 inches long at the floor on the 2022 to 2026 CrewMax. Covers list it as 5'7", and TruXedo lists it as 5'6".

What size are the Tundra beds?

For 2022 to 2026, Toyota lists a 5.5-ft Short Bed (65.6 in), a 6.5-ft Standard Bed (77.6 in) and an 8.1-ft Long Bed (96.5 in). All three are 48.7 inches wide between the wheel wells and 20.9 inches deep.

Will a 2007 to 2021 Tundra cover fit a 2022 to 2026 Tundra?

No. The brands we carry split the Tundra at 2021 and 2022, and no part we list spans both. Choose a cover by model year first and bed second.

Will a 4x8 sheet of plywood fit between the wheel wells?

Yes on a 2022 to 2026 Tundra (48.7 inches between the wheel wells) and on a 2014 to 2021 Tundra (50.0 inches). A sheet is 48 inches wide.

Why does my cover list 5'6" or 5'7" for the same bed?

Brands round the same box differently. On 2022 to 2026 parts TruXedo writes 5'6" and 6'6" where most brands write 5'7" and 6'7". Use your year and cab to pick the row and ignore the rounding.

Do I need the Deck Rail System version of a cover?

Only if your truck has the Deck Rail System. Some covers come in rail and no-rail versions, and several 2022 to 2026 parts we list fit only rail trucks, so check this before you order.
