The 2023 to 2026 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon come with one bed: a short box 61.7 inches long at the floor (just under 5 ft 2 in), sold only on the crew cab and listed on tonneau covers as 5'2". A cover for that bed, such as the hard folding BAKFlip MX4, starts at $1,199.99.
Trucks built from 2015 to 2022 also offered a 74.0 inch long box (6 ft 2 in, listed on covers as 6'2"), the only box on the extended cab and an option on the crew cab. Older trucks from 2004 to 2012 used 5 ft and 6 ft boxes.
Colorado and Canyon bed dimensions by generation
The Colorado rows come from Chevrolet's 2022 and 2023 brochures. The Canyon's lengths and its 41.9 cubic feet come from GMC's spec guides. GMC does not publish the Canyon's widths, so those two cells come from a published third-party spec table. Neither maker publishes bed depth.
| Truck and years | Cab | Bed | Length at floor | Between wheel housings | Wall to wall at floor | Volume |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colorado 2023 to 2026 | Crew Cab | Short box | 61.7 in | 45.4 in | 58.2 in | 41.9 cu ft |
| Canyon 2023 to 2026 | Crew Cab | Short box | 61.7 in | 45.5 in | 58.1 in | 41.9 cu ft |
| Colorado and Canyon 2015 to 2022 | Crew Cab | Short box | 61.7 in | 44.4 in | 57.8 in | 41.3 cu ft |
| Colorado and Canyon 2015 to 2022 | Extended Cab or Crew Cab | Long box | 74.0 in | 44.4 in | 57.8 in | 49.9 cu ft |
| Colorado and Canyon 2004 to 2012 | Crew Cab | 5 ft box (covers: 5'1") | not listed | not listed | not listed | not listed |
| Colorado and Canyon 2004 to 2012 | Regular Cab or Extended Cab | 6 ft box (covers: 6'1") | not listed | not listed | not listed | not listed |
The Trail Boss and ZR2 Colorado measure 58.9 inches wall to wall against 58.2 inches on the WT and LT, according to the same brochure. Chevrolet gives 45.4 inches between the wheel housings for every trim.
The 2015 to 2022 long box measures 74.0 inches at the floor in Chevrolet's 2022 brochure, exactly 6 ft 2 in. It has the same 44.4 inch and 57.8 inch widths as the short box and holds 49.9 cubic feet. GMC's 2022 spec guide lists the same 61.7 and 74.0 inch lengths for the Canyon but no widths, so the widths and volumes in these rows are Chevrolet's.
2023 to 2026: one short box
The third generation arrived for 2023 and dropped everything except the crew cab with the short box.
GMC's own spec guide gives the 2023 Canyon the same 61.7 inch floor and 41.9 cubic feet as the Colorado, on a crew cab with a short bed only. GMC does not publish the widths, so the Canyon's two width cells come from a third-party table and differ from Chevrolet's by a tenth of an inch. Cover makers list the pair together for the same years.

Chevy added the StowFlex storage tailgate for 2023, standard on the ZR2 with a lockable bin built in, and GMC's version is the MultiStow on the AT4 and Denali. Some covers do not work with either gate. Two trims carry a 35 inch spare upright in the bed, the ZR2 Bison (new for 2024) and the AT4X AEV Edition. That leaves no space for a closed cover.

Hard folding, 2023 to 2026
BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover
From $1,199.99 · Clamp-on, 400 lb rating, folds flush against the cab and opens the whole short box.
“Looks great and very easy to install. Fits perfectly with no cutting on my Colorado 5 1/2 ft bed.”
BAKFlip MX4 owner · 5 out of 5 stars
That owner calls it a 5 1/2 ft bed, but Chevrolet measures the short box at 61.7 inches on the floor, just under 5 ft 2 in. Covers list it as 5'2".
2015 to 2022: short box and long box
The second generation sold in two lengths. The short box, 61.7 inches at the floor, went on the crew cab. The long box, 74.0 inches and labeled 6'2" on covers, came on the extended cab and the crew cab. Neither truck was sold in the US for 2013 or 2014, so the second generation starts with the 2015 model year.
The short box is narrower between the wheel housings than the newer one, 44.4 inches against 45.4, and holds 41.3 cubic feet against 41.9. That difference is small and does not decide the cover, which sits on the rails. Cover makers still build a separate part for each generation because rails and tailgates change with each body, so buy by model year even though both are labeled 5'2".

A factory sport bar on a 2015 to 2022 truck changes the part. The short-bed TruXedo Lo Pro is sold for trucks with the bar and without it. The long-bed Lo Pro and the 2015 to 2022 Pro X15 TS are listed only for bar-free trucks. Read the fit notes before you order if yours has one.

2004 to 2012: the first generation
The first Colorado and Canyon had a 5 ft box on the crew cab, which covers label 5'1". The regular and extended cabs got a 6 ft box, labeled 6'1". We have no measured dimensions for these beds, so the labels are all we give. Cover choice here is much narrower, and many series we carry start at 2015 instead. The Extang Trifecta 2.0 and the TruXedo TruXport both list 5'1" and 6'1" parts for these trucks.
Why covers list a different size than the maker
Chevrolet calls the current bed the short box and GMC the short bed. A cover listing needs a length, so makers round the measurement into feet and inches, which gives 5'2" for the short box and 6'2" for the long one. The long box is 74.0 inches, exactly 6'2", so for that bed the label and the floor length agree.
A label also cannot tell you the generation. The same 5'2" appears on covers for 2015 to 2022 and for 2023 to 2026, and those are separate parts. Always buy by model year, then by label.
Confirm which box you have
- Latch the tailgate and take the cargo out so the tape reaches the front wall.
- Pull the tape along the top of a side rail until it meets the inner face of the gate, then take a second reading on the other rail.
- Line the shorter number up with the sizes listed for your years. Our guide to measuring a truck bed walks through each step.
Match your rail reading to the cover sizes for your years (5'2" or 6'2"), not to the floor figures in the table, because a cover sits on the rails, not the floor.

Covers that fit each bed
We carry covers for both trucks. Pick your truck, then your years and bed, in the vehicle selector. The Chevy Colorado tonneau covers page and the GMC Canyon tonneau covers page list every part, and the full tonneau covers range covers other trucks. What fits in the bed
- Plywood in 4x8 sheets measures 48 inches across, which is wider than the 44.4 to 45.5 inches between the wheel housings. It rides on top of them, not on the floor.
- The sheet is 96 inches long and the floor is 61.7 inches (74.0 on the long box).
- The bed holds 41.3 cubic feet on 2015 to 2022 short-box trucks, 49.9 on long-box trucks and 41.9 on 2023 to 2026 trucks.
- The 2015 to 2022 long box adds 12.3 inches of floor, 74.0 against 61.7.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Colorado have a 6 ft bed?
Yes, on some older trucks. From 2015 to 2022 the long box, the only box on the extended cab and an option on the crew cab, measures 74.0 inches at the floor, exactly 6 ft 2 in. Covers list it as 6'2". From 2004 to 2012 the regular and extended cabs had a 6 ft box, listed on covers as 6'1". The 2023 to 2026 Colorado comes only with the 61.7 inch short box.
What are the bed dimensions of a 2026 Chevy Colorado?
The Chevrolet eBrochure lists 61.7 inches of bed length at the floor, 45.4 inches between the wheel housings and 41.9 cubic feet of volume, with 58.2 inches wall to wall (58.9 on Trail Boss and ZR2).
Do the Colorado and Canyon share the same bed?
Yes, as far as the makers publish. GMC lists the same floor lengths as Chevrolet in each generation: 61.7 inches for the 2023 to 2026 short bed, and 61.7 and 74.0 inches for 2015 to 2022. It also lists the same 41.9 cubic feet since 2023. Cover makers list the two trucks together for the same years. GMC does not publish the bed widths.
Will a 2022 Colorado cover fit a 2023 truck?
No. Both are labeled 5'2", but each generation has its own part. Match the model year as well as the length.
Which cover opens the whole short box?
Two list 100% bed access. The BAKFlip MX4 stacks its panels at the cab end, and the BAK Revolver X4s winds onto a spool behind the cab. The RetraxPRO MX retracts into a canister at the cab end, so it does not list full access. Check your tailgate and sport bar in the selector first.
Is the Chevy Colorado a midsize or full-size truck?
Midsize. Chevrolet sells the Colorado as its midsize pickup below the full-size Silverado, and the GMC Canyon is its twin at GMC. Since 2023 both come only as a crew cab with the 61.7 inch short box.
