How we made this guide: picks and specs come from our catalog and fitment data, owner quotes come from verified reviews and the guide was drafted with AI help, then checked and edited by Trevor Hall.
The Ford F-250 Super Duty comes with a 6.75-foot box (81.9 inches at the floor, about 6 ft 10 in) or an 8-foot box (98.1 inches, about 8 ft 2 in), both 50.5 inches wide between the wheel wells. On a 2026 truck the short box comes on the SuperCab and Crew Cab and the long box on every cab. For 2025, Ford lists the short box on the Crew Cab only. The least expensive of the four covers below, the Extang Trifecta Signature 2.0, starts at $539.99 for the short box and $589.99 for the long one.
Ford's numbers come from its Super Duty spec sheets for 2025 and 2026. Ford's sheets give one set of box figures for the F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickups, so this page covers all three. For 2008 to 2016 trucks we have cover-maker labels only, and we say so in that section instead of guessing.
F-250 and Super Duty bed dimensions at a glance
On a 2026 truck the 6.75-foot box comes on the SuperCab and Crew Cab, and the 8-foot box on all three cabs. Ford's 2025 sheet lists the 6.75-foot box on the Crew Cab only, so a 2025 SuperCab has the 8-foot box. Every figure below is in inches except volume, which is in cubic feet.
| Years | Cab | Ford's box name | Length at floor | Width between wheel wells | Max width at floor | Depth | Volume |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | SuperCab, Crew Cab | 6.75-ft. box | 81.9 | 50.5 | 66.9 | 21.1 | 65.4 cu ft |
| 2026 | Regular Cab, SuperCab, Crew Cab | 8-ft. box | 98.1 | 50.5 | 66.9 | 21.1 | 78.5 cu ft |
| 2017 to 2025 | Crew Cab (2025 sheet) | 6 3/4-foot cargo box | 81.9 | 50.5 | 66.9 | 21.1 | 65.4 cu ft |
| 2017 to 2025 | Regular Cab, SuperCab, Crew Cab | 8-foot cargo box | 98.1 | 50.5 | 66.9 | 21.1 | 78.5 cu ft |
Depth is Ford's inside height. Ford also lists a tailgate width of 60.5 inches. Ford's 2025 sheet is the source for the 2017 to 2025 rows and its 2026 sheet for the 2026 rows. Ford's 2017-18 vehicle guide gives the same cargo volumes for the first trucks of this body: 65.4 cubic feet for the 6.75-foot box and 78.5 for the 8-foot box. The other 2017 to 2024 figures in the table are taken from the 2025 sheet.

2026 F-250 and Super Duty bed size
Ford's 2026 Super Duty technical specifications list two boxes. The 6.75-ft box is 81.9 inches long at the floor, 66.9 inches wide at its widest point and 50.5 inches wide between the wheelhouses. Its volume is 65.4 cubic feet.
The 8-ft box is 98.1 inches long at the floor, with identical widths and height. It holds 78.5 cubic feet. That makes the 2026 F-250 bed length 81.9 inches on the short box and 98.1 inches on the long one. The 2026 box figures match the 2025 sheet line for line, and most covers we carry list 2017 to 2026 as one part. Check that the listing names your model year before you buy.
New for 2026, the SuperCab can be ordered with the 6.75-ft box again, on a 147.8-inch wheelbase. Ford's 2025 sheet lists the SuperCab with the 8-ft box only.

2017 to 2025 F-250 and Super Duty bed size
For 2017 to 2025, Ford's 2025 sheet gives a 6 3/4-foot cargo box of 81.9 inches at the floor and an 8-foot cargo box of 98.1 inches. Both are 66.9 inches wide at the floor and 21.1 inches high, with 50.5 inches between the wheelhouses. The volumes are 65.4 and 78.5 cubic feet.
Ford gives both boxes the same widths: 66.9 inches at the floor, 50.5 inches between the wheel wells and a 60.5-inch tailgate. So the two boxes differ in length, not width, but covers in our range are still sold as a separate part for each length.
Some covers are sold with and without a factory tailgate step, so pick the version for your tailgate when you choose your truck. Our fitment notes list separate versions for the two.
2008 to 2016 and earlier: labels only
The maker's own box dimensions for 2008 to 2016 are not listed here. What we have is the sizes cover brands print on their parts, which the table below sets next to Ford's figures for the newer trucks.
| Years | Short box labels | Long box labels | Ford's dimensions here |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 to 2026 | 6'9" and 6'10" | 8' and 8'2" | Yes, in the table above |
| 2008 to 2016 | 6'9" and 6'10" | 8' and 8'2" | Not listed here |
| 1973 to 1999 (older F-250) | 6'7" | 8' | Not listed here |
| 1999 to 2007 | 6'9" | 8' and 8'1" | Not listed here |
If your truck is from these years, use the label that matches your tape reading and buy by year, make, model and bed. Covers for the 2008 to 2016 trucks are sold as separate parts from the 2017 to 2026 ones in our data, even when the label reads the same.
Why covers list 6'9", 6'10" and 8'2"
Ford names the boxes in round numbers: 6.75 ft and 8 ft. A tonneau cover is sold by the length it covers, in feet and inches, so the labels need converting. Six and three quarter feet is 6 ft 9 in, which is the 6'9" label. Ford's floor length of 81.9 inches is 6 ft 9.9 in, and the 6'10" label sits just above it.
The long box works the same way. Ford calls it 8 ft, and covers list it as 8'. Its 98.1-inch floor length is 8 ft 2.1 in, close to the 8'2" some brands print. The same brands put 8'2" on other trucks' 8-ft beds too, so read 8' and 8'2" as the same Super Duty long box. On 2008 to 2026 trucks our fitment data uses four labels: BAK, Retrax and Extang list 6'9" and 8', while Access, TruXedo Sentry and most Roll-N-Lock parts list 6'10" and 8'2". 6'9" and 6'10" both mean the 6.75-ft box, and 8' and 8'2" both mean the 8-ft box.
A label does not tell you the year. The same 6'9" label appears on parts for 1999 to 2007, 2008 to 2016 and 2017 to 2026 trucks, so always match the years too.
How to check your bed in three steps
- Shut the tailgate and empty the bed so nothing props the tape up.
- Stretch the tape over the top of one side rail, bulkhead face to tailgate face.
- Do the other rail, keep the shorter reading and pick the closest label in the table above.
Ford's lengths are taken at the floor, while the tape runs at rail height, so expect a small difference and match to the nearest label. Our guide How to measure your truck bed for a tonneau cover shows where the tape goes at each end.

“Had the same cover on a f 150 that lasted 9 years and still looks great very happy with the same for my new f250”
Extang Trifecta Signature 2.0 owner · 5 out of 5 stars
That owner moved the same cover line from an F-150 to an F-250. The cover itself is a different part: F-150 and Super Duty covers are listed separately for every bed. Do not carry a half-ton part across.

Whichever of these you pick, remember that its security depends on a locked tailgate, so lock yours. To compare the X4s with other hard roll-ups, see our hard roll-up cover comparison. The best tonneau covers guide compares every type.
What fits in a Super Duty bed
The 50.5 inches between the wheel wells is wider than the 48 inch width of a 4x8 sheet of plywood, so a full sheet lies flat on the floor. Both boxes are 66.9 inches wide at the floor, but that figure is the widest point and it narrows at the wells.
The 8-foot box is 98.1 inches long at the floor, which is longer than a 96 inch sheet, so the plywood fits with the tailgate up. The 6.75-ft box is 81.9 inches long, so a sheet needs the tailgate down. That is a good reason to choose a cover you can slide, fold or roll back, rather than one that has to come off.
Cargo space also differs: the short box is 65.4 cubic feet and the long box 78.5 cubic feet, a difference of 13.1 cubic feet. Depth is 21.1 inches on both. If your load stands taller than that, none of the covers above will close over it.
Super Duty beds against half-ton beds
A Super Duty box is a different part from an F-150 box. Our fitment data lists the F-150 in 5'7", 6'7" and 8' beds. A Super Duty short box lists two inches past the F-150's 6'7". For the F-150 numbers, see F-150 bed size by year and cab.
Frequently asked questions
Are F-150 and F-250 beds the same size?
Not since the 1999 Super Duty. Cover makers print 6'9" for the Super Duty short box and 6'7" for the F-150's, and the 8-ft beds, listed as 8' on both trucks, still take separate parts. Older F-250s from 1973 to 1999 carry the F-150's 6'7" and 8' labels in our fitment data. Ford's Super Duty boxes are 81.9 and 98.1 inches long at the floor.
How long is an F-250 with an 8-ft bed?
Ford's 2025 and 2026 sheets list an 8-ft-box Super Duty at 231.8 inches long overall as a Regular Cab, 254.4 inches as a SuperCab and 266.2 inches as a Crew Cab. A Crew Cab with the 6.75-ft box is 250.0 inches. The 8-ft box itself is 98.1 inches long at the floor, and covers list it as 8' or 8'2".
How long is a 2026 F-250 bed?
Ford's 2026 sheet gives 81.9 inches for the 6.75-ft box and 98.1 inches for the 8-ft box, both measured at the floor. Width between the wheelhouses is 50.5 inches and the inside height is 21.1 inches.
Will an F-150 tonneau cover fit an F-250?
No. Super Duty covers are separate parts from F-150 covers for every bed, including the 8-ft box. Buy a cover listed for your Super Duty year and bed.
Is the F-350 bed the same size as the F-250?
Yes. Ford's 2025 and 2026 sheets list the same 6.75-ft (81.9 inches at the floor) and 8-ft (98.1 inches) boxes for the F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickups. Dual-rear-wheel F-350 and F-450 trucks come with the 8-ft box only, so a dually needs an 8' cover.
Does a 4x8 sheet of plywood fit in an F-250 bed?
Yes, flat on the floor, because 50.5 inches between the wheel wells clears a 48 inch sheet. On the 8-ft box, with 98.1 inches of floor length, the tailgate can stay up. On the 6.75-ft box it has to come down.
