How we made this guide: picks and specs come from our catalog and fitment data, owner quotes come from verified reviews and every guide is checked and edited by Trevor Hall.
The best Toyota Tundra tool box for most owners is the Weather Guard 117-0-03 Aluminum Crossover, from $1,189, a 14.4 cubic foot box that clamps across the bed rails. To keep the middle of the bed open, pick the Weather Guard 174 Lo-Side, from $981, which mounts on a single rail. Under $250, the UnderCover SwingCase is from $219.99.
Our Weather Guard listings run 2000 to 2027 and name no bed length, so your bed decides how much floor is left, not whether the part is listed. See the full-size and Weather Guard ranges.

What fits your Tundra
A crossover's flanges rest on top of both rails and its body drops in between. Our listings give the 72 in outside length but not the width of the body below the flanges, and we have no rail-to-rail figure for the Tundra, so measure the inside width between your rails and check it against Weather Guard's fit chart for the part number. The dimensions guide shows how.
On the 2022 to 2026 Tundra the bed is 20.9 in deep, with floor lengths of 65.6 in on the 5.5 ft bed, 77.6 in on the 6.5 ft bed and 96.5 in on the 8.1 ft bed. The Tundra bed size guide has every generation. We have no bed dimensions on file for 2000 to 2006, so measure before you order.
Two Tundra options matter. Many of our Tundra cover listings are split by whether the truck has the factory Deck Rail System, and Weather Guard's box listings say nothing about it, so check that the under-rail clamps clear the rail track before you order a crossover or lo-side. Trucks with the Trail Special Edition package are excluded on the SwingCase fit row (see below).
Best overall: Weather Guard 117 crossover
The 117-0-03 is the Tundra pick because it holds the most and still starts below the smaller 127 and 121, from $1,340. The newer -04 versions list for more. It carries a limited lifetime warranty and under-rail clamps are included. See the crossover tool boxes.
Pros
- 14.4 ft³ is the most room of the aluminum boxes in this post
Cons
- At 27-1/2 in front to back it takes the most bed length of any crossover here (tied with the 116), and 2 of the 200 reviews on file say it touched or would not clear the wheel wells, so measure from the front wall to the top of the wheel wells first
- From $1,189, it costs more than the lo-side, wheel well and chest picks below
“It never leaks.”
Weather Guard 117 Aluminum Crossover Truck Tool Box, Full-Size Extra-Wide, Bright Aluminum (117-0-03) owner · 5 out of 5 stars
Latching is the complaint to know about: 5 of the 200 reviews on file describe a lid that needed pressing from the bed or a latch adjustment before both sides caught, including this 2-star one: "As other reviews have said you have to get into the bed and push this lid from the center to get this box to positively latch on both sides."
Steel twin: the 116 is the same 72 x 27-1/2 in footprint in formed steel, 14.5 ft³, from $1,229, a little more than the aluminum 117. This listing is Brite White; a gloss black 116 is in our range at a higher price. Aluminum vs steel truck tool boxes covers the metal choice.
Skip the 117 if you also want a cover: the toolbox cover we list for the 5.5 ft bed suits 19 to 21 in boxes, so pair it with the 20 in 127 or 121.
Best standard-width crossover: Weather Guard 127

Standard width
Weather Guard 127 Aluminum Crossover Truck Tool Box, Full-Size Standard, Bright Aluminum (127-0-04)
From $1,340 · A 20 in wide crossover with 11.0 ft³ and the most owner reviews of any box here.
The 127 and the 121 (sold as low-profile) list the same 72 x 20 x 18 in and 11.0 ft³, and both use a 1Key UltraLock, so it can be coded to the same key as your other 1Key UltraLock boxes. A 2-star 121 owner could not latch the lid without leaning on it, and a 3-star and a 4-star 127 owner describe an uneven lid or latches that would not catch, so test the latch when the box arrives.
Pros
- 20 in wide, so it takes 7-1/2 in less bed length than the 117
- Codes to one key with other 1Key UltraLock boxes
Cons
- Capacity is 11.0 ft³ against 14.4 ft³ for the 117
“For how light weight it is, it is really strong. It sits on my 2016 tundra.”
Weather Guard 121 Aluminum Crossover Truck Tool Box, Full-Size Low-Profile, Bright Aluminum (121-0-04) owner · 5 out of 5 stars
Best on one rail: Weather Guard 174 and 184 Lo-Side

Best lo-side
Weather Guard 174 Lo-Side Truck Tool Box, 56" Bright Aluminum Diamond Plate (174-0-04)
From $981 · A 56 in long, 13 in tall box that sits on one bed rail.
The 174 is about 56 x 17 x 13 in with 4.0 ft³; the 41 in 184, from $918, holds 3.0 ft³. Both use the 1Key UltraLock. Shop all lo-side tool boxes.
Pros
- Leaves the middle of the bed open for sheet goods
- All 8 reviews on file for the 184 are 5-star
Cons
- Only 3.0 to 4.0 ft³, so it holds hand tools, not a full kit
“Perfect! Fits exactly right.”
Weather Guard 174 Lo-Side Truck Tool Box, 56" Bright Aluminum Diamond Plate (174-0-04) owner · 5 out of 5 stars
Neither has a review under 4 stars among the 16 and 8 on file. Skip these two if you carry long tools: the 87 in 164 and 165 lo-sides are also listed for the Tundra, so measure your rail length first.

Best for the wheel well: Weather Guard 172

Wheel well
Weather Guard 172 Wheel Well Truck Tool Box, Driver Side Gloss Black Aluminum (172-5-04)
From $935 · Driver side, gloss black, about 46-5/8 in long.
The 172 bolts over the rear wheel well and lists 3.4 ft³ plus a 12V access port, with a limited lifetime warranty. The 172 is the driver side; the 173 is its passenger-side twin at the same price. See all wheel well tool boxes.
Pros
- Uses wheel well space that is otherwise dead
Cons
- No owner reviews yet
- 3.4 ft³ is small
Skip it if you want owner reviews first: none are on file yet.
Best floor box: Weather Guard 664 chest

Chest
Weather Guard 664 Aluminum All-Purpose Chest Truck Tool Box, 13.1ft³, Gloss Black (664-5-01)
From $978 · A 13.1 ft³ gloss black chest that sits in the bed against the bulkhead.
The 664 is an all-purpose chest, 62 x 20 x 19-1/4 in with 13.1 ft³. The listing gives about 20 to 40 minutes to install. One 5-star review on file says it fit a 6.5 foot Tundra bed. Of the 20 reviews on file, one 2-star owner reports a leak from a cracked weld, one 4-star owner has to press the lid from inside the bed to latch it, and one says it will not sit flush with the front wall and still open because of the lip at the front of the bed.
Pros
- 13.1 ft³ without sitting above the rails
- Offset hinge, cover opens 90 degrees (listing)
Cons
- Takes floor space
The 664 is 20 in front to back, so on the 2022 to 2026 bed it leaves 45.6 in of floor on the 5.5 ft bed, 57.6 in on the 6.5 ft bed and 76.5 in on the 8.1 ft bed. Skip the chest on the 5.5 ft bed if you need the floor.
Best under $250: UnderCover SwingCase

Under $250
UnderCover SwingCase Swing-Out Truck Bed Toolbox
From $219.99 · Impact-resistant ABS, 1.5 ft³, built for 2007 to 2021 and 2022 to 2026 Tundras.
The SwingCase is a plastic box that swings out for access, from $219.99 on both the 2007 to 2021 and 2022 to 2026 listings. It lists up to 75 lb and a 1-year limited warranty. The fit note reads "w/o Trail Special Edition Package".
Pros
- Least expensive box here
Cons
- ABS plastic, not metal
A 2020 Tundra owner:
“It fits under the lip of the bed, snug on the wheel well, not taking any bed space.”
UnderCover SwingCase Swing-Out Truck Bed Toolbox owner · 5 out of 5 stars
A 2025 Tundra owner adds:
“I love that they swing out where you can easily access them and they lock in place and don't rattle.”

Skip it if you carry valuable tools or a full kit.
Tool boxes and a tonneau cover
A box under a cover has to sit wholly below the rails, so its height must be less than the bed depth minus what the cover's rails and clamps take. The 664 chest is 19-1/4 in tall, which leaves about 1-5/8 in on the 20.9 in deep 2022 to 2026 bed and about 3 in on the 22.2 in deep 2014 to 2021 beds; no listing gives a cover's clearance, so check the install sheet. A crossover needs a cover built to sit behind it: the Access Toolbox Edition, from $580.55, lists "most 19 to 21 inch crossover boxes", which takes in the 20 in 127 and 121. The Extang Solid Fold Toolbox 2.0 is listed for the 2022 to 2026 6.5 ft bed. Read covers that work with a tool box and best tonneau covers for the Tundra.

Frequently asked questions
What size tool box fits a Toyota Tundra?
Check width first, then length and height. A lo-side sits on one rail, and the 62 in long 664 chest sits on the floor against the front wall, so measure the floor width there (65.0 in on the 2014 to 2021 6.5 ft bed, not on file for 2022 to 2026) and the distance from the front wall to the wheel wells.
What is the best brand of truck tool box for a Tundra?
We carry Weather Guard and the UnderCover SwingCase, so we can only compare those. The 127 and 117 are rated 4.9 from 272 and 221 owner ratings, the highest among the boxes with the most reviews here.
Does a Weather Guard box fit a 2025 Tundra?
Our Weather Guard listings show a 2000 to 2027 fit range, which includes the 2025. The SwingCase lists 2022 to 2026.
Can I fit a tool box under a tonneau cover on a Tundra?
Yes, with a cover built for it, such as the Access Toolbox Edition. Check the install sheet for clearance.
Will the same box work in a short bed and a long bed?
Yes by listing. The bed length decides how much floor you keep.
