Toyota has built the Tacoma with a short bed of about 5 ft and a long bed of about 6 ft since 2005, and the inside floor length has shifted by less than half an inch in that time. Covers are still sold as a separate part for each generation, so pick your model year first and your bed second.

Four series also list 1995 to 2004 trucks: the Extang Trifecta 2.0, TruXedo Lo Pro, BAKFlip G2 and Access LiteRider. All but the Trifecta 2.0 add a part for the 2001 to 2004 Double Cab short bed.
Every Tacoma since 2005 has a composite inner bed, and most carry Toyota's Deck Rail System, a track along each bed wall with sliding tie-down cleats. Many covers here mount their side rails to that track, so the cleats may move or stop working. One BAKFlip G2 owner found the cover took over the whole tie-down system.

The 2021 to 2023 Trail Edition added lockable storage bins in the bed, and those bins rule out several covers, also listed below.
For a bed rack, crossbars or a rooftop tent, eight series here put T-slot rails on a Tacoma cover. The BAKFlip MX4 TS ($1,499.99) is the entry point for 2016 and newer trucks. The RetraxPRO XR ($2,299.99) adds its own key lock and a 500 lb rating on both beds of every 2005 to 2026 truck.
On the 60-inch short bed, a retractable's canister costs floor length. A 2025 Tacoma Hybrid owner accepted that trade with the RetraxPRO XR but notes the hybrid battery already limits cab storage. The BAK Revolver X4s ($1,479.99) rolls up at the cab and the BAKFlip MX4 ($1,199.99) folds flush against it, so neither uses a canister.
Toyota added a locking tailgate for 2016. On a 2005 to 2015 Tacoma without an add-on lock, a folding or roll-up cover that releases from inside the bed is only as secure as a tailgate anyone can open. Retrax manual covers and Roll-N-Lock's M-Series lock with their own key, as one M-Series owner explains:

Six soft covers start under $500 on the Tacoma, from the Extang Trifecta e-Series ($339.99) to the Trifecta 2.0 ($469.99). The UnderCover Select ($899.99) is the only hard cover under $1,000 here.
Three Retrax covers list only the 2024 to 2026 truck: the FRC-4000 EZ-Off and the electric PowerTraxPRO MX ($2,899.99) and XR. No one-piece lid here lists a 2024 or newer Tacoma yet.

The Extang Trifecta 2.0 ($469.99) is the one cover under $500 that lists every Tacoma bed from 2005 to 2026, plus the 1995 to 2004 long bed. Its clamps tighten by hand, and a 2006 Tacoma owner takes it off and puts it back alone in minutes. Skip it if you leave tools in a 2005 to 2015 bed, since that tailgate has no factory lock and the cover has none of its own.
The RetraxPRO XR ($2,299.99) mounts crossbars or a tent on full-length T-slot rails, carries 500 lb closed and opens with the tailgate up or down. A 2024 Tacoma owner says the factory cleats no longer slide on the inner Deck Rail, but they mount on the outer T-slot of the cover's rails instead. Skip it if you need every inch of a 5 ft bed, because the canister sits at the front.
The BAKFlip MX4 ($1,199.99) folds flush against the cab to open the whole floor, and it fits the short bed of every Tacoma from 2005 to 2026. One owner says the Tacoma kit remounts the Deck Rail about 1.5 inches lower so the cleats keep working. For crossbars, the MX4 TS ($1,499.99) adds T-slot rails on 2016 and newer beds.
The BAK Revolver X4s ($1,479.99) locks along both bed rails over slash-resistant aluminum slats, which earns BAK's top Level-3 security rating, and it fits every Tacoma bed from 2005 to 2026. It releases from inside the bed, so a 2005 to 2015 truck needs a tailgate lock to match. One 2014 Tacoma owner found a gap at the tailgate wide enough to reach the release lever, so check that fit after installing.

Since 2005 the Double Cab has come with the 5 ft short bed or the 6 ft long bed, while the Access Cab, the 2024 to 2026 XtraCab and the 2005 to 2014 Regular Cab have the 6 ft bed only. To be sure, measure the floor from the front wall to the closed tailgate. About 60 inches means the short bed and 73.5 to 73.7 inches the long bed, so pick that one in the selector with your model year.
Yes, but on 2024 to 2026 trucks the rails decide the part. UnderCover's folding covers, TruXedo's covers and the RetraxPRO FRC-4000 EZ-Off are listed for beds with them, and Roll-N-Lock's M-Series and M-Series XT need them to mount. Roll-N-Lock notes Toyota sells the rails for trucks built without them, while BAK, Extang and LOMAX list no rail requirement. On 2005 to 2023 trucks, UnderCover's one-piece lids fit only beds that have the rails.
Several covers will not fit around the lockable bed bins on 2021 to 2023 Trail Edition trucks: UnderCover's 2016 to 2023 folding covers, Roll-N-Lock's M-Series and M-Series XT and the TruXedo Sentry CT. Other listings carry no Trail Edition note either way, so ask us to confirm the part before you order.
Mostly. A 2024 Tacoma owner with a BAKFlip F1 saw barely any drips after a 7-inch rainfall, and RetraxONE MX owners with a 2019 short bed and a 6 ft bed found only a little water along the tailgate. Covers with drain tubes route water out through holes in the composite floor, and RetraxONE MX owners with 2016 to 2024 trucks found the tubes too big for Toyota's drain holes. They fitted a reducer or drilled the holes larger.
